  1. Get your self an automotive stethoscope. Or a really long solid rod of sorts. Metal.

While the engine is running place it around different areas of the valve covers timing covers etc. Listen for where it's the loudest. If your using a long rod or extension hold with a fist and put your ear to it to hear.

It's also very easy to remove the cover to inspect your timing chain tensioner. 3.5 is notorious for it coming apart which causes the chain to slap and ride on the metal part of the tensioner instead.

  2. Just so you know, my aluminium plate is 1/4"... not 1/8...

    Cheers.

Plus is just as strong if not stronger.

I ran into a cypress stump with it doing about 15mph. Stopped the truck. Scared the bejezus outta me. Didn't even scratch the powder coat.

  3. Huh. It's like the starter is hitting much higher compression on one cylinder. And then it starts up fine.

Any loss of coolant, oil consumption, horrible fuel mileage, codes? I'm wondering if something is leaking into one of the cylinders, raising compression like a hydrolock, and being blown out when the engine starts.

That would make sense if one of his injectors is leaking. Which could cause a odd cold/hot start like issue. *Thumbs up*

  4. What I tried to show in the pics. Was that you put the different sides together. The one side without the spaced bumps goes against the straight side. The straight side has a raised area that fits in the other. Like a puzzle peice.

  5. Well one step in my patch concerning my oil consumption. Over the weekend found a bunch of oil in the intake tube. Which consumption through the intake is very common with the 3.5l cars. To which they have catch can options available to them. Me? Nah. Just capped the intake tube part. Put a small cone filter breather on the PCV tube that would go to in the intake. Will monitor the filter for excessive oil and see how my oil consumption goes. If need be, Ill do a whole catch can setup. But I'll go the whole Home Depot route with air line filters n stuff.

  6. On mobile. But there is a thread where someone mad a hidden winch mount. With pics to show how he built the mount.

Very similar to how a winch bumper mounts. Using the stock upper bumper mounts then triangular down to the tow hook mounts.

The bumper mounts are soft. But the tow hook mounts are attached to what we have for a frame in the front. If I remember correctly it's even stated that the passenger side one is the dedicated hard pull one. But double check your owners manual. It's in there.
