  1. it starts at around 80 km/h if i let off the gas it slowly goes away and if i accelerate it goes away or is drowned out by the sound of accelerating. sounds like it's coming from the middle to rear. in town I don't hear it at all.
  2. so comming back from hunting the other day I noticed a very high whine at arond 80kph.I'd been driving at highway speed for about an hour. RPM was around 1800. temp was right in the middle. If I slowed down it goes away if I speed up it goes away.can't tell if it's from the trany (auto) or rear end. just replaced the trany fluid about a month ago. Anybody have any ideas? I know its not a belt could be a bearing somewhere I'd just like to narrow down the search. thank ps: this has been the most helpful forum I've ever encountered. keep up the great work.
  3. Found a coolant leak from what i think is a temperature censor on the throttle body. it's just under the air intake looks like it might be connected to cold start function? doesn't seem to be leaking much yet, just a few drops, but i think i should deal with this soon. I'll try and get a photo soon. just wondering what that part is called so i can find a new one.
  4. Dropped the spare. lubed the mechanism. aired up the spare. sandblasted the rim and repainted with rust paint (black) Replaced rear wipper blade. checked brake pads (front) polished the headlights. Tried and Failed to fix the 0p400 (EGR) problem. filled the dam thing full of fuel again! (Though i did get 430 Km on the last tank. It wasn't even on E yet!)
  5. so finally got around to tackling the P0400 (EGR) problem....purchased a new gasket with the intention of removing and cleaning it...as I was removing the air intake hose I discovered a dangling vacuum hose under the throttle body and a obvious connection point to some sort of censor. so I connected it put everything together and started her back up...no more CEL...YAY !!!! however driving home from my buddy's shop the CEL came back on again. I'll hook up the Scanner again tomorrow. right now it's time for a wobbly pop.
  6. Any idea where to find the special socket to remove #6 sparkplug for an VG33 ? my local Nissan dealer was no help at all.
  7. I need to upgrade my tires. currently i have Motomaster total terrain passenger rated tire.(sucks) no suspention upgrades yet. stock tires are 245/70R16 (2000 R50se) can i squeek in 265/75R16 or should i try 235/85R16 ??(i've always enjoyed tall and thin) thinking about Kelly safari tsr anybody try these? looked though various tire treads on different forums but it seems everyone has a suspention upgrade. don't feel like doing that yet as shocks and struts are still in good shape. so this question has seen 30 views but no reply yet. doesn't anyone have an opinion?
  8. so the manuel tells me to use the right hand side loop for stuck vehicle recovery...looks just like the left one to me. should I replace them or can i use them together with an equalizer strap? I've got a single point shackle for the trailer hitch receiver that should work fine.
  9. I've got a 2000 pathy with rusty fender wells i was figuring on trimming them, then i thought i might have room for bigger tires, then i thought about the strut in the way in the front....solution wheel spacers, or am i just out to lunch?
  10. do they use same 4WD system? Terrano is probably diesel but anything else???
  11. thanks....LUBEMAN... I'll probably by the sensors local as a 7% import duty is applied to cross border auto parts.
  12. so i bought a code reader because my CEL was on. it showed me the fallowing codes...P0400, P0139, P0161, P0160, and P0138. from what i can gather all of these codes refer to either O2 sensors or Post Catalitic Sensors. any reason i should worry or will it just affect my KpL (MPG)???
  13. I see model dates for both but what are the differences? my "2000" pathy was built in september of 1999 so i'm confused as to what model year it is.
  14. crawled under rusty again, and no grease points on the drive shaft at either end. my drive shaft is just a big tube with a joint at either end. it doesn't look like the above drawing at all.
  15. was crawling under "rusty" today but didn't see any grease nipples on the drive shaft....just realized the gutter road we could follow if i asked where to put the lube...lets not go there. Cabin air filter??? ok ok i'll download the FSM. thanks for all the tips. i'll post some pics as soon as i figure out how to use the camera.
  16. so CV boots and sway bar end links were replaced before i bought it. just changed oil/filter and ATF (full synth) this morning. i'm gonna do diffs and T-case next month. replaced the air filter already. I'm borrowing a obd 2 reader next week to figure out the service engine light. i think it's the MASS air sensor. the boots on the front struts are toast so i figure thats the first major repair i'll have to do.
  17. so what's it for...I live to close to work to drive everyday, yes i ride a bike, 6km takes about 25min. mostly it's gonna be for camping, I hate paying for sleeping in a tent so I tend to get off the beaten path. second is for hunting, again I tend to hit the back country so I don't get shot by truck hunters. I'm thinking better tires and a winch i can hook up to the 2" receiver and maybe a roof basket to hold all my extra crap. any thoughts on wade depth without a snorkel? being an x maritimer i can't swim.
  18. a real pathfinder? all the pre 98's here in winterpeg have died of cancer long ago. as for the Mass air flow...judging by how dirty my air filter was when i bought it, the sensor must be filthy. i figure i'll just clean it with electrical contact cleaner. speaking of cancer.. the pathys got it all along the fender wells, i think my first winter project will be to cut it out and add in some fender flares. can't seem to find any though that don't cost an arm and a leg.. any ideas?
  19. so i just bought a 00 Pathy and the first trip went great. the truck is stock now but, not for long! thought this would be a fun topic. a couple of questions though. whats the largest tire size i can fit without a BL or SL? and how easy is it to change a mass air flow sensor?
