Lost that same bolt on the passenger side, had to re-tap the threads as they were stripped. Also noticed my idler arm is shot, could that have been the cause?

New battery, one more un-fun thing to check off.

Small Block Chevy Swap worth it?
AndyC replied to pratt152's topic in Solid Axle Swaps, Hardcore Custom Fab
You're doing a SAS at the same time, so everything can be passenger side drop right? Sounds like the right time to do it! -
This is a little hard to describe. I use a fender mount, that is screwed into the roof in between the hatch and the roof. It's centered on the hatch and with a 3ft fire stick we get great reception. Looks kind of like an RC car!

I'm sure that was really frustrating, but the mental image is making me laugh a bit. Good luck getting it sorted, I'm going to have to double check my planned trimming pattern!

Engine swap (Again) and SAS
AndyC replied to thehuntersam's topic in Solid Axle Swaps, Hardcore Custom Fab
While I like Nissan engines, there is nothing I wouldn't swap a small block Chevy into. Ease of maintenance, parts availability, torque for days. What are you going to do for engine management? -
Wheels off a 1st gen xterra installed, painted black. UCAs come in contact with the inside of the wheel at full lock so I tried to grind down a small portion of the UCA. Helped a lot, but a little more material needs to come off. Trimmed some sheet metal off to gain clearance for the 33x10.50s to stuff. Found out one of the UCA bolts is stripped... Need to do the front brakes, idler arm, and replace the exhaust studs next weekend. Love the truck, always have an excuse to futz with something.

I may have been a little premature on my judgement of the lock rite. The PO kept the original (20yo) shocks with a 3 in lift. I had no travel left in them, they were topped out. Around corners the whole vehicle would cavitate from the locker ratcheting. Now with the appropriate length shocks, it is almost unnoticeable. Still chirps on right turns from a stop, but I think I can mitigate that with tire pressure changes. Once the tires heat up the chirping goes away. I am much happier now.

I have to admit that the coils are loosening up a bit as I get some miles on them. They are still a little high (maybe a lot) so I may be cutting them down a bit. We will see.

Are running boards or nerf bars strong enough to support hi-lift jack?

Are running boards or nerf bars strong enough to support hi-lift jack?

X4. A few years back a guy and his family came along on a wheeling trip. Everyone warned against leaving the step rails on but he would hear nothing of it. Sure enough, in the approach to the trail entrance he dropped on a rock and punched the step rail up into his rocker. not only did he have to deal with the cosmetic damage, but he had tivdrivevthe rest of the weekend with the rails strapped to his roof rack as a reminder. -
May be too simple, but my exhaust leak is almost unbearable when the engine is cold. Goes away on warm up. Could just be a leak at the manifold that seals itself once it warms up.

Not running the rancho 9ks. Pro comp 3k, cheapos but they are brand new. Put a 12in radial arm chop saw, 20 gal compressor, table saw, and 200 lbs of other tools in the back of the truck. List a 1/4in if rude height, but it felt like a Cadillac going down the road. May need to just keep trail spares with me.

I've been going back and forth with that. I'm not sure I'm in love with the AC spring rate. From searching the XJ coils would be softer. Im not concerned with street manors or handling. The truck does carry around that weight in tools most of the week. It measures out at 38" to the top of the fender (with factory flares) and 35" to the front. I can feel the rake while driving and that's a bit annoying. The boots have already ripped once on the cv's so no more cranking. I appreciate the reply.

We had a local member invest a great deal of money on headers and a true dual exhaust system for the 3.3. It sounded like a rabid popcorn machine and performed very poorly, and this was with a tune. On the plus side, with cold weather it looked like it was blowing smoke rings. There was no exhaust scavenging with this setup.

I've got AC 3in coils in the rear. Recently I dropped the front to a height where the control arm droop stops are not sitting on the bump stops. The truck now has a lot if rake to it. The AC coils also ride very firm. Would swapping to a 3in XJ lift coil result in me loosing 1.5in? That's what I'm looking for, I understand it is also a softer spring, allowing more flex which would be great. I've got a 1992 4door xe, usually wheel with just the bare necessities and trail spares if that helps.

Not a lot of info out there on this one. New to the Lock Rite in my 1992 pathy/auto. I'm just this side of being impressed with its on road manors. Right now it has 80w90 fluid in the rear end. I'm wondering if anyone has had any luck smoothing out the lockers operation with a different weight or specific brand of fluid ( right now valvoline). There aren't any clutches so a friction modifier wouldn't help, right?? Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks for the link! Sorry to beat this horse, but what road would you go down. Spacers or new wheels? Kind of like the look of the chromy wheels so I'm leaning towards keeping them, and they are in great shape. Also thinking of grabbing some JGC coils and mocking up a 1.5in lift to see if I can make it work. Would like to have the geometry a little closer to stock. I guess, from your experience, would you try and make the 3in lift and 33s work, or stick to a more conservative setup?
-
Thanks for the help! I've been looking for a reasonable set of wheel spacers with little luck. If you have a link that would be great. Otherwise I will be wheel shopping. It's not a DD so if I can get the aligent close, I will be happy.

Im brand new to the forum and new to pathys. I've just purchased a 1992 4 door with a basic 3 in AC lift. It has new torsion bars, tre's hooha, not sure about alignment as it looks way off. All the parts are there for a good truck, just need to work out the gremlins. It has 33x10.5 BFG km2s on stock chrome rims. It rubs on the frame pretty badly. To compound the problem it has a lockrite un the rear, so corners become some what of a rodeo. Is there a way other than spacers or new wheels to alleviate the rubbing? I have not had a chance to really dig into the setup, hopefully this weekend. Thanks in advance -andy
