  1. What no-one has mentioned here is in addition to the stiffness is the weight. I went from D rated tires with steel wheels to C rated with Alloys and holy cow could you feel the difference - in acceleration, braking and handling. Saved ~20lbs a corner. Half was the tires.

Remember unsprung weight is the enemy - even on an offroad truck,.

    Very true

  2. Gotta ask what's your plans? Find another cab to put on your frame or vise versa?

Oh nothing like that. Just going through a bunch of stuff and one of them will be to pull the engine/trans and paint the frame and suspension properly. We have salt on the roads up here. I want to seal everything up and make this thing last as long as possible. Kind of a half assed restoration type thing. Plus roll cage, full custom interior, new paint on the body, new cleaner roof rack, and a few other things. Depends on money. I'm doing it all myself so we'll see how it goes. I'll be starting a build thread once I begin. Waiting for taxes so I can buy my bender and a few other things before I start. Right now I'm just getting my shop ready for the project and making sure I still have room to work on money making jobs without my crap being in the way.

  3. Has anyone lifted the whole body off the frame and rolled the chassis out of under it with complete engine/trans attached? Any tips you can give me? any idea how much it weighs? Not sure of the method I plan on using to do this. I have exposed steel trusses in my shop. So I questioned whether they would be strong enough to support the weight of while body. I have plenty of floor space so I could always lift it from the floor with jacks....

    Thoughts and idea please.

I need to lift it high enough to clear the engine and roll the chassis out of under it so I can do some work to it.

  4. Amazon is telling me the NM-20 doesn't fit my Pathy (1991 4x4 SE). Am I looking at the correct part? Should I just ignore Amazon and chalk it up as them not knowing what the hell they are talking about?

Also where do I get the solenoids, temp sensor, and the temp switch? Mine was rebuild December of 2011 and it's shifting all wrong and slipping in all gears but not all the time. I suspect my issue is with the electronics in the trans. I bet they didn't replace any of that when they did the rebuild.

  5. Tell us more about this part bud.. :aok:

I'm buying a tubing bender after I get my taxes back. Planning on doing a ton of work to my ride. New roof rack, cage, full custom interior, new paint and graphics to help promote my business, and new wheels and tires will be the cosmetic part of what will be done. Work to the trans and engine will be done too. No SAS this year. SteveO still hasn't finished the 3 link kit anyway lol.

I'll start a build thread once I start. God willing nothing will get in the way of me completing it before summer comes.

  6. Have any of you run tires with this load rating on your Pathfinder? Basically a tire with a max PSI of 80 psi. I'm looking at getting some 16 inch Treadwrights but they only have this load rating available in the size I'm looking at. Worried that even with a lower PSI they might be too stiff. What do you guy think? My truck is heavier than stock and I will be putting a full cage front to back here very soon. Do you think that extra weight will be enough to keep these tires from feeling like I'm driving on stone wheels?

  7. Ok so here is where things stand right now with the pathy. I've been driving it as it was after my last update. Smoking issues seems to have gone away. Idle issues is still some what there but not nearly as bad. Ether way winter is starting to finally kick in over here in Syracuse. I just picked up a 2000 Saab 9-5 wagon so I could park my pathy for the winter and take care of some much needed issues. That and add a few cool up grades. If the money is there I may even do a SAS. IF THE MONEY IS THERE... Me and my other half our finally planning for our wedding and we need a pretty penny for it. So we'll see how it all plays out. I think I may do a full custom interior from front to back and maybe cage her before the SAS.

The trans will be coming out and maybe even the engine too. Lots planned and she's earned it. Even my other half agrees with me on the repairs and upgrades. She's come to really like the Pathy and appreciate the fun and experiences she's brought us as a family. That always helps when it comes to spending money like that lol.

  8. The center door bar is something you want but on a 4 door it's ether going to get in the way of the rear door opening, stick to far out, and be a major concern if that bar takes a side impact. It will bend and more than likely prevent you from opening the door. I've been looking into doing this and the only safe option I have come up with is to build a internal/exo cage combo. Do a main hoop inside with some cross bracing and then have it exit the roof and tie into the exo cage design.

  9. No I haven't changed the fluid. I guess it makes since on why I should but they didn't tell be that I should so I figured it was good to go. I know they flushed the whole system a few times because they were worried about metal shaving in the lines from the damage that cause me to need to rebuild it in the first place. I don't know @!*% about transmissions much less these ones. Hell I don't even know what the trans computer looks like. I do have two external coolers because I don't use the stock cooler. The fluid looks as good as it did on day one. However since last weekend now it has a burnt smell. No inline trans filter.

  10. So I had my trans rebuilt by AAMCO in December of 2010 when I first bought my pathy. Now not even two years later I think it's about to go out!!!

So ever since I got to NY I've noticed it shifting a little weird. Feels like it's not shifting into the proper gear at time or slipping the clutch rather than fully engaging.

Things got worse over the weekend when I hooked up my 4x8 enclosed trailer and took off to go pickup an industrial sewing machine. The trailer was empty other than the sewing machine table (maybe 75 to 100 pounds at best). While driving home at around 65 the trans light came on. I slowed way down and it cooled off enough to turn the light off. I babied it home and parked it for awhile to let it fully cool off. Ever since then everything I listed above seems to be WAY worse. It's strange because I know the clutches aren't warn out. I know this because sometimes it shifts hard. It's like it's completely freaking out and not knowing how to shift. I can come to a complete stop for a split second at a stop sign and rather than shifting into 1st it stays in 2nd. So when I pull away from the stop sign it slips really bad. Or I have to manually shift it down a gear. Over drive seems to be slipping really bad too. Like it doesn't know if it should fully engage or not.

Any ideas other than to get ready to buy another trans? Wondering if there is some sort of sensor that could be bad that is not talking to the trans computer properly.

  11. If you're building it to wheel. And when I say wheel I mean lots of extreme inclines and declines then you should stay away from anything that runs with a carb. Unless you plan on running a propane kit. If you're building it for mild wheeling. More mud than rocks then a carb will be fine and in that case I can fully understand the urge to want an engine that is cheap, reliable, and has an aftermarket parts list that seem endless.
