  1. Alright so I was told that the filter I bought was for a 2WD. As he said they have a screen and not a filter in the 4WD? So I changed the fluid today, took 3qts to get it right in the dead center of the cross hatches of HOT. After driving it around with the new fluid. So I'm guessing it's official now, the tranny does have to be replaced as new fluid didn't help it. Thanks everyone! I'll keep you posted if I figure anything out.. I just know cold starts it usually always goes into reverse, kicking in and out, but still goes. I should have a new tranny and have it put in by next week..
  2. Alright, so I did it the way you mentioned by the FSM and it came out maybe an inch lower than with key off? It's still way over full though, but thanks for showing me the right way! I bought the filter and fluid to change it all out. FSM calls for DEXRON II but apparently they got rid of that and the guy at advanced said DEXRON III is good. So I suppose tomorrow ill be changing it all out. Thank you!

  4. Oh yeah. Definitely! Today, a fellow advanced worker having heard of my tranny problems tells me how he was literally given his Pathy because they thought the tranny was gone.. He took it to a tranny shop and they checked his fluid.. It was 2 qts too full, so he drained it and tada! His tranny stopped slipping and worked fine.. So he told me to check it key off engine warmed up to temp.. And WOW! It's way over full! Like.. Two inches over the full mark!
  5. Swapped resistors with the red pathy; no change. So it looks like I'll be swapping TCU's when I get a day to pull the trim and swap them. If no change it'll be a fluid + filter change, and if not.. It looks like I'll really need to be sourcing a HD tranny.. Thanks guys. It's just weird because it's like on cold starts it'll go right in.. Sometimes it'll go in slowly or not go in at all. But it's never left me stranded as far as refusing completely. It's definitely a pressure issue, so it seems, as I seem to have the most luck when going straight from Drive to Reverse quickly. Not sure.. Thanks! Any more tips please throw them my way!! I'd appreciate it.. Also, if I happen to find an X or Pathy tranny.. What years are compatible? Also is it a direct drop in with the sensors? Anything that has to be modified? Thanks..
  6. Wow. So my neighbor decided to get me a set of tires for my birthday.. And WOW. No more violent vibrations! The only thing it does now is pull slight left but that's it. So now that problem is gone. My key now turns to off. Now I just have to get that reverse figured out!
  7. Also, my shift lock won't 'click' so I'm guessing the solenoid is bad? It wont let the shifter go into park because it won't click. Thanks! I'm finally getting somewhere.. Or so it seems
  8. So this morning.. I went out to it.. Its battery was dead (always dead in two days of no use, I guess because the key is left on) and I jumped it off and thought to myself.. Let's try reverse! It goes right in with no problems. And I drove it around some and got it to where it would slip and barely go into reverse and I disco the battery.. Wait 30 mins.. Reconnect the computer and tada! Reverse is suddenly back again. Is there actually hope??! How would the TCU make it 'slip into reverse' after the computer has learned it.. But on fresh resets it goes into reverse fine. What?!
  9. Okay, had the shop look at it.. On the passenger side the bal joint, idler arm and tie rod end need replaced. On the driver side it needs a tie rod end..so looks like i need more done to it than i thought..eh well, who said things would be easy? I guess thats why it seems like the wheel was about to fall off..coz its probably just about to. So it looks like red pathy, and its slowness will be getting me around for a few until i can get those replaced..
  10. I wish,but that would be more money than I'm able to get..the only ones I can find are WD21's..and one r50. (If it still has its tranny) But you have a point, I really don't want to end up in this situation again so it is best to do it right this time.. Its just sourcing a xterra as most are still running around with no.problems.
  11. Alright taking it into the shop and let them fix-replace the tie rod..and also,quick question, what trannys are a direct fit with the 94 and 95? I did go ahead and swap the front to the back, thanks it does wobble pretty bad now, so the old slow and reliable red one has been getting me around.
  12. So I lifted it up today and found out my driver wheel has a lot of play when checking for wiggle in '9 to 3' and it looks like the tie rod end closest to the wheel has had it.. As far as play, and passenger wheen has some as well but not as bad. Would that cause it to shake that's badly though? I couldn't find and play in it with any other type of wiggling or wheel bearings wise..
  13. Today I'm going to jack it up and check for play in the wheels.. I did find the driver front appears to have a bald spot.. But that wouldn't make sense to why it's more noticeable at a slight right.. Actually believe it or not my speedo goes up to 11mph at key on and is off that exact amount but my odometer is right on the dot! (its 4.7 miles from my house to the gas station and its 10.6 miles to work from my house according to red Pathy and they both match up right on the doti can't wait to see my MPG on it, because it's looking a lot better than the red one.
  14. Yeah because when I test drove it it went right into reverse.. But the battery was removed for a while. Now it feels like a wheel is about to fall off! Its definitely a front wheel as I can really feel it at speeds around 30mph. At 55mph its still there but not as bad, and it's really noticeable and shakes bad turning slight right.. Good news is it looks like I'm getting 23mpg out of it with A/C on!
  15. That's an idea! Where's the tranny computer at on these? Yeah ill compare valve and dizzy timing now that I can.. Yeah I miss the red Pathy but the black one has the sunroof and its already lifted, so I'm stuck between the two.. I'll probably get them both fixed and just have one as a backup vehicle as the reverse is sketchy on it, but it seems like it just can't keep enough pressure to go in /stay in reverse.. So ill see if I can find a filter and change it with new fluid and a pan drop.. But probably not much more than that.
  16. Hmm.. Been a busy week and red Pathy is too powerless to take out anywhere so black Pathy has been promoted to DD. But.. Its like when I can't get it to reverse at all if I go from drive straight to reverse it'll go as long as I rev it some.. So I'm assuming it's a pressure issue as in drive it'll have enough pressure to build up a little more to back up? I know when it's in reverse it'll squeal tires and kick in and out repeatedly.. So it looks like I'm looking for another tranny, as I don't think this one is worth saving anymore.. I did add the stop slip (half bottle) and it didn't seem to help much. Also.. How common is it for the front main seal to leak oil? Every where I park and come back after a few hours there's always a drop of oil straight under my harmonic balancer..
  17. Just a bit of added info, neighbor said it acts like the torque converter, by how it kicks in and out, so maybe I'll try flushing it with trams tune?
  18. See.. I blamed the linkages because of how it acted, I'm afraid it's just the shift lock is messed up.. Because even if in leave the shifter between p and r no reverse and between r and n no reverse.. The reverse lights do come on when the shifter locks in to R. So I'm not sure.. But I do know this sucks!
  19. Alright, I will say the tranny cooler was pretty warm after driving it around for a few.. I'll drop the pan tomorrow and check it out. Thanks!
  20. If it's not a Pathy with no power, its a pathy with no reverse..new pathy is powerful but not looking so good now..:/

  21. Thank you!! Bad news.. Fluid is clean and looks freshly replaced.. If I put it in reverse and rev it up slowly a few times it'll catch as long as I'm going, once I start accelerating it chirps the tires and its fairly rough, then I stop, and go and its again sounding like a 5 speed it'll sort of catch around 1100 rpm and bog down and catch.. I think my tranny is shot.. it doesn't slip at all between any gears though.. It shifts quicker than the red Pathy did.. Is it savable?
  22. Oh yeah, I definitely am going to check the tbelt. I do know there's a lot of Nissan service tags where they've had it in to Nissan for service.. Which makes me feel good. Air filter even has a Nissan service tag on it. There's a oil change sticker on the door jamb by Nissan as well.. They had things done right at least. I do know that sometimes it'll go right into reverse, other times it wont. It depends how I move the shifter.. I do know to shift from park I have to push up then pull back.. Also how can I check my shift lock mechanism? It's seriously screwed up to the point the key doesn't move to the lock position. Only the acc position. btw I can't believe how solid this frame is!!
  23. It has fresh red fluid in it.. From what I can tell, I ended up buying it for 1300. I told them it may need a tranny.. But the speedo shows 11at a stop and just when the key is on. It shifts fine normally.. I'll try it again when I'm home, and I did end up keeping the red Pathy. It'll either be fixed or used as a parts truck.. Thanks guys! Looks like a tranny flush is in the near future. No service records other than the air filter. That tranny cooler seems like it's flowing nicely..
  24. Ok, so i'm looking at a 94 Pathfinder XE and im wanting some opinions... It has a LOT of power. Has oil leak by the oil filter.. Tranny cooler installed, and it shifts quick and fine..but after driving it around, i put it into reverse and it acted like it wasnt in reverse all the way...it would rev like it was in neutral, then go. Here;s what throws me off. It;'s only at 150k miles, has tranny cooler, and the key wont go into LOCK where you can pull the key out. That makes me wonder about the tranny linkage..coz when you put it into park, the little button stays in, instead of 'locking' it into park, like the shift lock is screwed up..sometimes you have to play with it before itll start, unless you put it in neutral..anyway, i talked them down from 2000 to 1400..Should i take it? It's lifted and has nice wheels on it as well. 4WD kicks in great too..Thanks!
  25. Yep, at cyl. 1 TDC the timing marks are still roughly (judging like a clock) around 15mins away.. So obviously something is off on timing and I've finally given up hope on it.. I'm going to sell it and get a black Pathy I've been looking at for a while.. As long as the test drive goes ok. I can't afford to dump anymore money into it, and hopefully it'll get the attention it needs..
