I used an impact wrench to remove my pulley. It came off without the need to "block" the engine from turning over. The down side is that I had to remove the radiator to make enough room for the tools.

We will take your first three posts here as your newbie introduction. Welcome to NPORA!! You are fairly close to doing a timing belt swap if you have to replace the water pump. I'd do it if I were already that far into the break down. In fact, most of us replace the WP while we are replacing the TB. All you need at this point is the tensioner pully and the $30 belt itself. Oh, and spring the $9 for the 27mm (?) socket for the harmonic balancer removal.
-
Oh yeah, make sure that you check the rubber isolator on the driver side (directly under the oil filter) as they tend to parish quicker than the passenger side because of the spilled oil on the mount.
-
I got mine off of a '96 Q that I spotted in my local j/y. I think I paid $30-45 for it. Of course, I had to take it off and install it myself. The biggest cost was paying for the alingment.

THE MRJIM PATHFINDER HAS BEEN STOLEN FROM SNOHOMISH, WA
devonianwalk replied to MrJim's topic in General Forums
The fact that it might be a friend of the family (or some acquaintance) makes it worse. I sure do hope that you find the lazy bastards. I too have a Miata ('92 NA 1.6L). I have instructed the wife to quit locking the doors when she is out and about. I would rather just replace the radio as opposed to replacing the radio and the top or window. -
Ah, I thought you physically dropped the tank to access the unit.
-
There should be a removable access panel located under the rear seat (lift the carpet and take a look).
-
The access door is under the carpet beneath the rear driver side passenger seat. I'd check to make sure the ground wire on the sending unit is good if the float proves to be "un stuck".

Wow! Good call posting that pic Slarty.

That is both a great and a bad idea. It would be great for a weekend toy but, it would be a permanent solution for a DD. Hmmm ..

Battery probably went first and the alty killed itself trying to keep everything going. -
1st Pick and Pull trip...what to look for? and when to stop?
devonianwalk replied to bushnut's topic in General Forums
Yeah, good call on the electrical gizmos. I need to stop by my local J/Y on the way home one day this weekend and take stock on some of the stuff you mentioned B. There were two or three pre facelift R50's in the yard a few weeks ago. I'm still waiting for a 99.5 - '04 to show up for some minor interior swag that I'd like to replace. -

Dash lights staying on? Low voltage output? These are typical signs of an alternator about to die. -

Son of a biscuit! You drive a Miata too? *edit* .. I kind of thought that word would have been edited -
Sounds to me like you are planning to wheel her a bit. Look for mirror mounting options to keep you legal. Here in South Carolina you only need the driver side mirror as long as you have a rear view mirror. Oh, and I know that in some northern states you have to have doors to keep your extremities in the cabin (knees, elbows, etc.) But, thankfully, we live in the "dirty south" and can get away with it!!
-
If you plan to drive it offroad you will be fine. I know that it is illegal in most (if not all) states because you will not have your outdoor mirrors. As for looking silly? Nah ... I have seen a lot of Jeep Cherokees with their doors removed on our local trails. I kind of dig the look. Post pics if you decide to follow through.
-
You had better keep us updated with pictures!! Drive safe.
-
My buddies nicknamed mine "La Blanca VaJay Jay" due to my inept wheeling skills and crap luck every time I've taken her off-road. Now we just call her VaJay or, if the kids are around we refer to her as La Blanca.

Glass Vs Plastic Headlights Who Has What
devonianwalk replied to ONCEBITN's topic in 96-2004 R50 Pathfinders
From my understanding, face lift R50's (99.5 +) have the lexan covers. -
Im torn. I want to tell, you "bad luck" but, I also want to see where you go with this. Either way, you are lucky that you had a good, honest, person to not just drive away after the collision.
-
... or wait for the pipes to cool and beat them with the side of your fist (watch out for falling debris!!). I just took a pair of channel locks and ripped/twisted my heat shields off years ago. I've yet to see any damage caused by their removal. I had the same rattle that you described.

I'm not too familiar with the WD21 (your '94) platform but, do you throw the transfer case into 4x4 with a shifter lever or do you engage into four wheel drive via a push button on the dash?
