Hey Nate, I'm glad to hear that I'm not alone (though I'm sure you're not). What exactly does the fuel pump sound like? I'm not sure if we have the same problem though, because both times this happened with my truck it didn't simply turn-over (but not start) normally while cranking. It began to turn-over then stuttered or hiccuped and either resumed turning over and starting, or just stopped. Either way, I'll let you know if I figure something out. Alex

....2001 2wd LE w/87k.... hope the length isn't too off-putting, just trying to be thorough. i'm looking for ideas, and/or symptoms to start looking for. since i bought the truck this has happened only twice: during start-up there's a bit of a 'hiccup,' that's the best word for it that i can think of, while she's in the process of starting (ie, as i'm turning the key). the first time was after driving 3-6 miles and then sitting for approx 2 hours. she began to turn over and then stuttered and stopped (died). but on the next try, 1-2 seconds after, she started up. the second time was after driving ~5 miles and sitting ~30 minutes. she started to turn over, hesitated, (seemed to be a clunk/thud coming from somewhere below me) and then resumed and started-up. every other time i've started her (dozens of times) she's started fine, but i'm worried this might get worse (and this must be a symptom of something that needs a'fixin'). after looking over a dozen other posts i'm thinking this might be a fuel pressure regulator issue. does that sound feasible? any other suggestions? my biggest fear when buying a high-mileage used car is that the transmission is going to fall out on me (my last car was a manual) - could the start-up-thud somehow be related to the transmission? all comments and suggestions are welcome, alex

ouch, that stinks. i have no personal experience with those gates myself, but i doubt they'd be too hard to find. the one's i've seen have adjustable legs so i would think you just need to get the dimensions you need and find one that adjusts to within that range. gl alex -
very nice. love the white truck with black wheels. how much of a lift is that?
-
i just took the rear cap off and slid them back and it was easy as can be. but perhaps my '01 is a different setup.

Power Valve Screws Falling Out On 3.5's, 01-04
muttmobile replied to Trainman's topic in R50 FAQ's & Pinned Topics
thanks for the heads-up. did you happen to get a price quote? -
01-04 has a chain.
-
the 01 will also have regular 4wd and i believe (though i could be wrong) that you can disable the AWD and go 2wd. i'd go with the 01. less miles, new parts. doesn't the 02 also have AWD since it's an LE?

Replacing struts/shocks but do I need springs too?
muttmobile replied to muttmobile's topic in The Garage
hmmm....well I've seen them listed on many sites as OEM. perhaps it's because i have a different year truck than you. http://replacement.autopartswarehouse.com/...bsorber&dp=true http://rep.racepages.com/parts/racepages/w...showdc=true#top perhaps it's not the same exact shock (specs wise) as the original, but it is, nonetheless, the manufacturer who is licensed to make the 'original.' has anyone had any luck finding bilstein shock absorbers for stock height 01s? cause i haven't. all i've found so far are KYB, MONROE, RANCHO (5000 and rsx1700, not the 9000 series), and OME. -
Replacing struts/shocks but do I need springs too?
muttmobile replied to muttmobile's topic in The Garage
I've come across a new question in my search for new struts/shocks: If KYB GR-2 struts are OEM (meaning what was on the truck to begin with, right?) why do people seem to be so impressed with them after installation? shouldn't it basically feel the same? is it simply because most people are replacing old, worn-out shocks, so it feels much better though it's essentially just bringing the truck back to how it drove new? or am I missing something here? -al -

I've got an update (since I know you'all are at the edge of your seats, nose pressed against your LCD screens (or CRT screens more likely since you spend all your extra dough on path mods)): finally took the mutts out with the pather yesterday. i got some heavy duty suctions cups from BBB (bed bath & beyond) which I stuck to the windows and then draped some old towels over them. worked pretty well, looked pretty ghetto. they had some over-door hanging stuff at BBB but nothing was quite the right size. I also searched home-depot but didn't find anything useful. I've yet to look for those accordion file holders, but for now the suction cups'll do. -
which bulb for the glove box light in an '01 LE,
muttmobile replied to muttmobile's topic in 96-2004 R50 Pathfinders
They have those books here too, but for the '01 pathfinder clove box light there's just a " - ". Doesn't help much. I called the Nissan dealer and they have the bulb for $9. I've always thought $3 for those teeny bulbs at the auto store was bad but how ridiculous is that. He gave me the part # but I don't think it's gonna help since it's not like the # system they use at the stores. -

muttmobile replied to muttmobile's topic in 96-2004 R50 Pathfinders
I've done both. The problem is there is nothing printed on it (or if there was, it's now worn off) and the auto store has nothing in their computer about it. But (just thought of this one) maybe the Nissan dealer would know, I'll give them a call. -
the rear are shocks, and from what i've read in my haynes manual, it should be a pretty simple job.

not a bad idea, but it would be a bit of a pain since we take the mutts out quite a bit. i'll keep it in mind as a plan B. thanks, al -

come-on, a little common-sense here please. first of all, the barbed wire will scratch up the leather even worse than the claws, and second - blood strains! -
InCabin Air Filter Installation Instructions

I suppose $28 not so bad, I'll call the dealership tomorrow. I thought the cabin air filter was standard in 2001. -
InCabin Air Filter Installation Instructions
muttmobile replied to Trainman's topic in 96-2004 R50 Pathfinders
just pulled my filters out of my '01 and it doesn't look like they've been changed in quite some time (if ever) - just nasty. I'm going to look into just pulling out the paper from the plastic housing and refilling it with a home-depot filter. I noticed that the vertical slit they insert into behind the glove box was simply hacked out of the plastic housing. kinda interesting that the manufacturer would do it this way, must've been an afterthought. -
the t-belt is actually a t-chain for the 01-04s. so that should still be good for a while. according to my owner's manual the plugs should be replaced at 105k.

Replacing struts/shocks but do I need springs too?
muttmobile replied to muttmobile's topic in The Garage
thanks 88pathoffroad, that's what I was hoping to hear. -
I've got a 2wd 2001 LE with 87k. Not looking for lift and I don't off-road (obviously since I've got a 2wd), I just want better handling and ride. I've read just about every struts/shocks/coils post I could find with the search and have roughly decided on KYB GR-2 struts with either Bilstein, Rancho 9000, or KYB shocks. I'm still not exactly sure whether I can fit the Rancho 9000 or Bilstein in the rear though. seems they fit pre-2001 paths, but I'm not clear on the 01-04s. But my main question(s): should I replace the coils/springs as well? how do I know if this is necessary? will simply replacing the shocks/struts be a major (and less costly) way of improving the ride? thanks, al
