  1. So what is this Go-Lightly? Is it a temp fix or something that can be used for a maintenance for the cat? James
  2. Ok guys forgive me I have not removed my center link yet to inspect it. I have been searching info on center links and now I see that the end of the center link may look like a ball socket (or tie rod end) but it is a rotating only type joint. (or at least used to be blond) So yes now I agree that twisting is not normal. Well damn, I guess I need a new center link too! James
  3. I would say yes it's normal. The way it is designed it almost has to twist like that. They should have put the inner tie rod end a few inches down the center link rod instead of the doge bone style. But hell it's been working this long like that. James
  4. Any electronic device I have that craps out, the first thing I check is for cracked solder joints. Usually fixes it too. Electronics are soldered by machines, they don't check for a good connection when they are finished. James
  5. From what I hear factory leather seats are like that. Kind of pisses me off I have factory leather in my titan and a buddy has aftermarket in his. His is all leather and a little softer than mine. James
  6. You could always add another lighter outlet or rewire the factory one to run on battery power instead of ignition. I am planing to add one at the back hatch. My Titan has the utility bed with a power source at the back of the bed. It is really helpful. James
  7. My pathy is 5 speed but my wife's 01 quest van calls for dex3, and I used maxlife in it. Still working good at 124,000 James
  8. Thats what I'm about to do, strip it to the frame and come back with all new parts. When you pull your dust boot back you will see what they do. When you are wheelin you don't want poo getting in the splines. You know everything sticks to grease when you don't want it to. James
  9. I ordered from 4X4 parts, they are already on their way. The problem with the local dealer in my area is that they suck! They don't stock much either. I vowed to never buy another Nissan because of them. Then I bought this pathfinder, oh well I guess I lied. They never have anything for my wifes 01 quest so I knew they wouldn't have had anything for this old pathfinder. And if I have to order it I will order it from someone cheaper. They charged me $16 for an oil filter once! James
  10. I found a jack! thanks for all y'all help, the pics helped alot. I still had all the other tire tools under the seat so I'm all set now. This one is kind of rusty but that just means a future project of cleaning and painting. James
  11. I had search though 4X4 parts and couldn't find them. I searched again this morning and found them though. I need to slow down I'm always in too much of a hurry. Come on Red the king of search! I thought you would have come back with at least three different links! Thanks guys James
  12. I bet you enjoyed the job too. You have the satisfaction of fixing it yourself, and a smile from all the money saved that you would have paid to someone else to do it. With vehicles this old you have to be able to fix it yourself. I just don't trust anyone else working on my vehicles. I pace the floor when I'm getting tires put on. James
  13. Hey guys I'm ordering suspension bushings and cant find the dust boots for the torsion bars. I will have to take them off so I would rather go back with new ones. I searched the forums and a couple of parts websites but didn't find them. Is this a dealer only item? James
  14. Thanks for that Red, I was going to search for it just hadn't had time yet. My main problem with searching is the time to look through the results. It took me three days to find converting to rear disk but I did find it by myself. And whats up with this poho thread? More than half of the search results I get for anything I search for are that thread. James
  15. Welcome Chase, this is a great place for pathfinder info. These guys are bad influences! I haven't worked out the front end issue that mine had when I bought it yet and already I lifted it. But hey better now then after I get it aligned. James
  16. The pictures definitely will help. I thought the over all length was too long and I knew the front legs (part that turns down) would be to long. From the look of his pics as far as I can tell he didn't shorten the over all length. Possibly once I get the front legs to length the over all length will be just right. I stripped a bunch of front end parts out of the scrap yard yesterday and this morning I realized I'm not as young as I used to be! I got my truck jacked up yesterday evening and got a good look at the suspension. On the passenger side, the compression rod bushing is screwed up on the nut side of the rod. This let the lower a arm front bushing in the frame move forward until the a arm is rubbing on the frame. I could see this letting the tow pull in as far as it did. Now I just need to order some bushings then rebuild the whole front end so I can get this front end issue out the way, then on to the xterra rack! James
  17. That was just one post. If you guys are all using them I will probably get a set too. the polly one will probably be easier to find anyway. James
  18. That does look good, I guess I won't be the first to put an xterra rack on a pathfinder. Do you know anyway to contact this guy? Where did you get the pictures? It would help to talk to him and maybe get some close up pictures before I start cutting. I know I will have to shorten the legs in the front because the pathfinder doesn't have as much step in the roof. Possibly after doing that it would not be too long. Right now it's definitely too long. I guess I'll have to move this project up from the back burner. James
  19. I nabbed an xterra rack for $20 to put on my pathy. It was missing the basket and wind deflector but I will keep looking for that. I will have to shorten it for sure (didn't think xterra was that much longer than a pathfinder) and maybe narrow it some. It was mounted the way GrimGreg mounted his with just the pop rivet style nuts. Once I removed the rack I could push the threaded holes up and down so I know there was no cross member under them. This will be a future project for after I get the front end squared away. James
  20. Guys while searching about the tension rod (compression rod) I found a post that said this bushing needs to flex and the polyurethane bushing were too hard for this area. They said that by not being flexible enough it would cause the compression rod to eventually break. Then the tire buries in the fender and locks up. I will have to search again to see if I can find it again. If I remember right this persons did break and he spun around in the middle of the road. His compression rod could have been worn badly from the previous bushing being bad for to long and he didn't mention that. James
  21. Cool guys thats just what I needed. It's like the old chevy pickups had but you couldn't open the chevys to regrease them. I see you have vinyl mat instead of carpet in your truck. Did you change it or did some come factory with a mat? James
  22. Can someone take a picture of their factory jack preferably in the holder? My truck didn't have one and I'm going the scrap yard to get one. They just have a big pile of jacks none are left in the trucks. Once I know what it looks like I can pick one and go try it in a pathfinder to see if it fits. I searched but couldn't find a pic. I did find the Nissan speed jack idea though. His video links were down so I could't see them. MY1PATH must have been bored. I think I will try it too! James
  23. Most auto part houses will loan you tools. You put a deposit with a credit card, and when you bring back the tool they credit your card back. I know auto zone does this around here. I agree with changing all of these things when you tear it down but the oil seals aren't really a beginner job. What I usually do is drill a small hole in the face of the seal and then screw a screw in to it and pull on it with pliers to get the seal out. Just be careful that the drill bit doesn't jump and hit the cam. Then to put the new one in you will need a large socket or anything round the size of the seal but preferably slightly larger that will also fit over the cam. Just drive the seal flush with the head surface not deeper than that. Good luck you will enjoy it. James
  24. I can't say what happened from your description but if it would have bent valves it would not run at all. If you never changed the timing belt you do need to check that first. A stretched timing belt will let the cams go out of time and run like crap. Mine was showing 35psi of compression on one cylinder before I changed the belt, it was stretched so bad it was slapping the cover. to my defense I bought it like this I would never have let it get that bad. Make sure you read the tutorial very well and pay close attention when you are doing it. Maybe even print them out and have them with you when you work on it. A person that does not know what they are doing can screw thing up really bad. But with the knowledge on this forum anyone that can follow directions can do it. You cant even get info this good from shop manuals, the pictures make all the difference. Hell we are guys we don't read we like to look at pictures. James
