  1. I was very impressed with the event. There was a strong showing of people there and if you guys advertised it, it would have been crazy busy. Next year, you should charge $5 entry fee and make some extra money. I would have paid it. Anyway, I will be there next year and I am sure that some of the local members will be joining me too. I just got home and so no photos or videos again tonight, but I will get to them soon. Just sooo tired... Jim
  2. I will follow up with other area boards if this gets any response. After the event this week where no one from NPORA showed up for except me, I wanted to make a corner for locals to talk and plan so that does not happen again. Jim
  3. Okay, guys and gals... NPORA is joining up with Faith Wheelers tomorrow morning for an offroad obstacle course. It will be a lot of fun. There are prizes to be won by everyone and then there is the NPORA only door prize. Yep, one lucky NPORA member that shows up tomorrow will will a home DVD player with remote. Your chances are very good at this point as only a few have committed to going. Email me to let me know if you can come tomorrow and let's show them what a few Pathfinders can do... Jim
  4. As the Founder of NPORA, I have tried to make this a haven away from advertisements and popup ads, etc. As many of you know, I have been out of work since March 17th because I had a surgery and then many problems following that all the way up to today. In fact, I was even taken by ambulance to the hospital just last Friday where I spent all day under sedation while they gave me IV muscule relaxants to help my twisted bowels (OMG - Painful!!). In short, I have not have a paycheck since a week after March 17th and I am tapped out now. We have power bills, phone bills, NPORA hosting bills, etc. that are all due now and even though my wife is still working it is no where close to what is needed to just get us to the end of the month. I just started working again as the Internet Manager for a local car dealership, but it will be 3 weeks before I get any sort of paycheck and I am out of options. I have spent more than I care to add up providing NPORA at my own cost while keeping advertising out of the picture because none of the members wanted it and now I really need help. If it is was not very serious, I would not be asking for help. It is beyond bad. On a lighter note, I am the new Fleet/Internet Manager at Rairdon's Dodge, Chrysler, Jeep now in Arlington, WA and I have total control of pricing. If any of you are close enough, I will sell you any Dodge, Chrysler, or Jeep at $500 under Invoice, plus any rebates that are offered and most have rebates at this time. Be sure to ask for me and then let me know that you are from NPORA. Otherwise, you would not get this special pricing. My first paycheck won't be until the end of the first week of June so you can see how bad my situation is, but I would happily help any of you with special pricing on any of the vehicles that we carry (new or used). Thanks for anything that you can do to help. Don't feel bad about it if you cannot afford to help. I know things are bad all over. Imagine losing all pay for two solid months and then think about how that would affect your life. It is a scary situation when I know that it will be three weeks before I get my first paycheck and I need to come up with over a thousand dollars immediately. Cell phone goes off tomorrow night, electricity probably on Monday (seriously), and home phone sometime next week. Those are the big ones, but there are others that are just as pressing that are also overdue now. I was just finally released for work from my doctor and was at work the next day. If you are able to and want to help us get through the next month, please send any amount to us on Paypal.com using the email address ebay@mrjim.net... :Magic:
  5. 88, Darn is not censored. That is unless you typed something else and darn showed up because of our filters. Anyway, the majority has spoken. If I thought that I was the only one, or even that I was in the minority about this, I would loosed the rules. It just goes to show that you can't please everyone and I hope that no one is offended by the cursing rules. We decided it democratically and that is as fair as I know how to make decisions like this.
  6. Yours seems to be the odd one out 88. I wonder if your larger tires are effecting that, because that would raise your gear ratio too.
  7. You know that is an important factor that is one main reason that I want it like it is. Most of us are guys here and the more you loosen the rules (here or elsewhere), the more we (as guys) just let go and curse like bandits. Me included. I once spent a few months traveling with a group of technicians that were all guys and I learned some really good dirty jokes, but one weekend when I was home, I just left the bank and found something on my statement that really upset me. My wife was in the passenger seat and my young daughter was in the back seat. I just shouted out, Mother F*****er! My daughter said, "DAD!" I wished I could have just crawled under a rock. All I could do is say I was sorry, but how not cool was that? Anyway, that is one reason that I like this to be curse free. Even when someone types WTF, the words go through your head. What is so terrible about just saying, "What the heck?". I just don't understand why these restrictions are so terrible to a few here. I am sure that I am being slammed on other boards about being so restrictive, but I even put it up to a vote and literally only a couple of members want to curse here. Thanks for everyones support!
  8. The older Pathfinders had the smaller hp engines so naturally they would be geared lower to ensure that we had enough power. This means that our low end power is pretty good, but the rig is no high end speed vehicle. That is why we are seeing 3,000 rpms at around 70 mph. The Toyotas had more hp so they can sacrifice some of their low end gearing that would translate to their engines running at lower rpms than ours at hwy speeds. If we somehow managed to setup our gears so that our stock 153hp engines were only hitting 1,500 rpms at 70 mph, I do not think we would be able to maintain a steady speed even going downhill. It is all relevant. We have smaller hp engines, so Nissan geared them lower to deal with it.
  9. It seems that the majority does not want to make it easier to curse, etc. on NPORA. As I have said earlier, I am no saint. I do my share of cursing in certain company, but I just want to keep this site as clean as possible so that everyone will feel comfortable here. It is less likely that people will leave or avoid the site because of a lack of cursing than the alternative. I appreciate all of the support for my efforts, as well as for the hard work of others who help to keep NPORA together and online. I would ask that you do not use typos and symbols to curse here anyway and I personally feel insulted many times when I see this because I see it as a "screw you" to me each time it occurs. I do not see why this is so important to some. To each his/her own, but I just want to continue to see NPORA as a profanity free place. I try to be as flexible as possible and I hope that you will be supportive in helping with this. Thanks gosh darn it.... Oops! :secret:
  10. No, not that. I just have access to programming on the site... Truthfully, 88 has the lead in posts...
  11. I searched for them online and only found a bunch of stuff at the Attorney General's Office against that dealer for deceptive practices. ??? I can't see how any reputable dealer would still have any 95 new vehicles on hand. They pay interest on all new cars monthly or quarterly to the banks and at some point, they just dump them at below cost to avoid paying any further interest. If he kept them all of this time instead of taking a loss and selling them below cost, does that mean that he is still expecting to get invoice price? I bet they do not even exist. He says they just happened to be in a warehouse that he bought? Doesn't anyone think this is weird. These would have been $25,000+ rigs at least even in 1995. So are we to believe that someone just misplaced $125,000 worth of vehicles for 9 years? Come on... Jim
  12. As I said, It is good to be the King. I can make anything happen, but that number sounds about right. I have been online a lot in the last day or two...
  13. It is pretty bad when you have to drive from the west coast to the east coast to fill up your gas tank because our gas is too expensive over here. Besides, those three days trips each way are getting old... Gas in my part of Washington starts about $2.03 for cheapie gas and there does not seem to be a limit on the high end. I know I have seen it as high as $2.67, but I have not paid close attention to the high end.
  14. 88, I know that many have all of this in order all ready, but many more have just ignored it all and only put in the minimum that it would allow. Thanks, Jim
  15. I have put a lot of time and effort into NPORA and these forums. I have spent a little time today taking a look at everyone's profiles and was dissappointed to see that few of you bother to fill out the information about what you drive, the area that you live, your age group, etc. This is not very personal info. It is not like it is asking you for your home address and phone numbers, or your social security numbers, but it makes our site more substantial to be able to browse your basic information when you see a member that has a nice photo or something else that prompts you to take a look at their profile. Then you see a bunch of blank spaces. I realize that not everyone has AIM, ICQ, etc. and I am not even talking about that stuff. I am simply asking that you complete the information about you and your rig. Please take a minute, go to the link at the top of the page that says, "My Controls", then click on "edit profile info". Thanks for your cooperation...
  16. I thought I was the all time champion. It is good to be the king...
  17. It could be that your is just that bad and you need clean it more, or your might be something else like a bad cable, etc. If you still have stuff breaking loose and flowing out, then you may just have a lot more cleaning to do than most.
  18. Remember that engine breathing is a two way street. The K&N Cone filter intake or similer type is just has important as a good exhaust. Combined, they make a huge difference in over performance and sound.
  19. Do you know that I was just looking at some old records and I was surprized to see that NPORA became an actual Club on July 10th, 2002. It seems like so much longer than that when you look back now. That is the day that www.nissanpathfinders.com went online. Prior to that, we were an unofficial "club" for a number of years on www.mrjim.net, which started out as a site to just showcase my personal Pathfinder and soon we had so many Pathfinders submitted to our Reader's Rigs section and so much going on in our daily forums that it just seemed like the next logical step to move onto an actual Pathfinder Off Road Club. We discussed it on the forums and collectively decided on the name NPORA, or Nissan Pathfinder Off Road Association. Everyone was eager to see it happen so on July 10th, 2002 - the new site became active and we have been on a stampede of growth every since that day. It is gratifying to know that my little site started it all, but the success of the organization came from and continues to come from the members. I have always said that NPORA did not "belong" to me and was instead something that we all created together and all of our ideas and innovations have made NPORA the organization that it is today. We are getting an average of 1 million hits per month on our site from the smallest corners of the earth. It amazes me more each day. I would like to see a drive to create local chapters through the United States and the world of NPORA. I would certainly like to see more NPORA based trail runs with lots of Pathfinders showing up to show the world what Pathfinders are really capable of. They are sleepers waiting to be awakened. Who knew? They look great and are such a trouble free vehicle anyway, but they are a force to be dealt with on the trails too. I still love my 1994 as much today as I did the day I purchased it. Maybe more. My wife's 1996 has been just as great of a rig too. They are just like the Energizer Bunny, only with mud... Look for many more new Members on our main site at www.nissanpathfinders.com soon since quite a few have piled up since my surgery on March 18th. I plan to start adding them this week. Thank you to everyone who has helped to make NPORA what it is today!

    winch

There are a couple of aftermarket winch bumpers like the ARB that I have which are designed to accomodate a winch. Pathfinders from 87-95 had frames that made the installation of a winch easier, but even the newer models had winch bumpers designed for this. 88 mentioned that you could use a carrier and a 2" receiver too. That is not so difficult of a installation and you do not have to carry all of that extra weight around with you all of the time. Basically, you have a 2" receiver hitch mounted under your front end and then you purchase a winch cradle/carrier that is a winch mount that holds your winch and plugs into your 2" receiver hitch when you are ready to use it. They can be pretty cool, because you can easily swap it from the front to the rear and back in just minutes. It also is always nice to be able to hook up your boat to a front hitch for precise launching or parking. The only trouble I see is if you manage to get stuck in a position that blocked the receiver opening or something. Well, that is all I have to input - the good, the bad, and the ugly. Winches are your bestest buddy when you find yourself on a trail alone somewhere and just made a seriously wrong turn. I would never give mine up...
  21. I "think" that the 96 and newer may have struts in the rear and not shocks. It seems to me that the best solution may indeed be the air bag option, or you could add beefier springs, but the only negative with the latter is a stiffer daily ride.
  22. Sounds like one of those little tricks to void a warranty by showing them that you have been in there even though it said not to. What other reason would there be to add a special coating that only seems to come off with carb cleaner?
  23. Sometimes a little common sense can go a long way. When this problem first reared it's ugly head on my wife's 1996 Pathfinder several years ago. I wasn't sure what exactly was causing it. I tracking it from the pedal itself to the throttle and I thought that the throttle cable may have been screwed, so I called the Nissan Dealer to check on parts, etc. I spoke to a service manager and when I described it all to him, he was like, OH, this is a very common problem. It is just gummed up residue in your throttle assembly that is causing your throttle to stick in the closed position. He said it is very common and was delighted to tell me that it was only a $70 repair and proceeded to set an appointment. Meanwhile, I am thinking, "heck, if that is all it is I can easily fix that." I asked him if I couldn't just use some carb cleaner to clean that out myself? He said, "OH, NOT AT ALL... THIS MUST BE DONE BY THE DEALER. IT IS NOT SOMETHING THAT YOU SHOULD EVEN TRY TO ATTEMPT ON YOUR OWN". Well, I do not trust dealers, repair shops, etc. anyway and what he was telling me was just not adding up. So, I figured that it could not hurt to try my idea. I mean what could happen? Would the carb cleaner somehow melt the throttle assembly into the top of the engine or something??? Right... I bought the spray, opened the plastic cover and you can see the residue. It is sticky gummy stuff and there is no mistaking what you are there to attack. Then, you use the little pressure straw that comes attached to the carb cleaner can for added pressure spraying effect. You use one hand to manually open and close the throttle and the other on the spray can to thoroughly clean all signs of the gum away. Gravity will bring most of it out of the opening, but some (diluted with carb cleaner and not a risk) will undoubtly get up in there far enough to foul up your first attempt to start your engine for a moment or two. When you first start the engine afterwards, it may act as though it is not getting gas for a couple of moments and then it will start a little roughly. Rev the engine a few times and you are GOLD... Now, guess what I think of the service manager that told me this absolutely could not be done by a non-mechanic. RIDICULOUS! I am glad to hear each time my story helps another person turn a $70-$100 service ripoff into a 20-minute job that cost $2 instead and you have the pride of doing it yourself too. FYI: This was Performance Nissan in Lynnwood, WA. Later!!!
  24. denisb's post gives you a good description, but the dealer will certainly know what you are talking about.
