Will I have problems towing this...?
tecciball replied to MaximumHP's topic in 90-95 WD21 Pathfinders
advice from a highway designer - stick to the interstate. the country roads may have less traffic, but they are not as safe for long distance driving. you will no doubt find sharper curves, steeper grades, and much worse pavement conditions. and if it decides to snow (not sure where you live), the conditions get even worse much faster than the interstate (higher traffic volume helps to keep roads clear). dont sacifice your safety so that other clowns can break the law! -
does your q have the vq engine? i know the pathy 01s do. i have a similar shifting issue with my tranny. only when it is cold though...

most effective fuel economy upgrade
tecciball replied to tecciball's topic in 96-2004 R50 Pathfinders
can anyone give me a cost estimate on manual hubs installed? i did a quick search and it seems that warn premiums cost about 150 for the parts. is that the brand to go with. i dont remember ever seeing another brand mentioned in mod lists or sigs. also, will my stock se wheels accomodate the new hubs? if i need to mod my wheels or buy new ones, i will pass on this. thanks again for everyone's replies! -

most effective fuel economy upgrade
tecciball replied to tecciball's topic in 96-2004 R50 Pathfinders
i thought i had read on this forum that the plug upgrade would help with fuel economy b/c of hotter spark. maybe not. if there is no economy increase, i will probably hold on that one as my pathy only has 52k miles. anyone know a multiplier for adjusting the odometer after my tire size upgrade? an online calculator said that i have 3.5% fewer revolutions per mile. so should i add 3.5% to my mileage then divide by fuel purchased to get the true ecomomy? thanks pathians! -
I am looking for a fuel economy upgrade for my 01 Pathy. I have increased my tire size a bit recently, and my mileage is down. So I want to mitigate the economy loss with an upgrade. BTW, I did think this way before I joined this forum.

venge - you bought yours for 8k, or 8k less than kbb? i got mine in feb 05 with 33k on it for $17k. now has 52k mi. others with more miles in my area were priced b/t $19-21k. i was upside down on my grand cherokee, which the guy took for what i owed. i was satisfied with the transaction. and i have been very happy with the reliability over my first 2 years of ownership. needs inspected in jan, so we will see if it needs anything. i hope not, so that i can sneek some upgrades onto my invoice! anyone have a guess on manual hubs installed?

What aftermarket wheel will Warn hubs clear?
tecciball replied to Avus Blur's topic in 96-2004 R50 Pathfinders
avus - when i was recently researching tires, i was told that the geolander at +2 was being discountinued. the tires were still available, but with no mileage warrantee, so i went in another direction. anyone else - i am also thinking of eventually going to the warn manual hubs, but wanted to stay with my stock se wheels. is the center bore big enough for this upgrade? if new wheels or modification is necessary i will probably just forget it. -
4x4 - that is crazy high. you must be a youngin. your rates will go down eventually, as long as you behave!

i bought a bosch unit when one of mine went.

97 is not that old. how many miles? definitely dont junk the pathy. just tell your parents that the repairs will be much less expensive that replacing the vehicle. and your proposed $500 vehicle (even a honda) will have its own list of needs as well! that is no solution. at least you know the service history on your pathy.
-
how about a k&n drop in filter. that is what i went with. no worrys about the maf or stability.

i have read many posts about the pesky no 6 in the vg engines. does thet vq have the same issue. i have been wanting to upgrade to iridiums, and will do it much sooner if i can do it myself.

i used to have a 95 isuzu trooper with remote mirrors. pretty big truck, and i always though it was a silly feature for such a vehicle. i only used the feature for a good laugh during college road trips - go-go gadget mirrors!

a happy wife is worth way more than $14500, so you got a bargain on all counts!
-
so how much did you pay?

i did the jeep to pathy swap. no points should be awarded there. the jeep gave me all the motivation needed for the upgrade!

i know it is possible to add the LSD after factory, but that is definitely not the case for my pathy. it was leased in its former life, and the PO treated it like poo. when i bought it, there were plenty of scratches and the interior was fairly stained. i even found a wacky pipe under the rear seats! i hope that he/she maintained the mechanicals/fluids properly. i got it with 33k on it, so hopefully the will be no significant long term issues. i have the interior pretty clean now after a good detail. also quite a few more scratches on the exterior for authenticy! i also love putting $ into the pathy, mostly for maintenance so far, so it should last me for a long time! my goal is to hit 200k mi. sssh i think my next upgrade item is gonna be the iridium plug upgrade!

wish i got the 265/70. didnt have the cahones!

2003 Pathfinder purchase questions
tecciball replied to rovergirl's topic in 96-2004 R50 Pathfinders
most of your questions have been anwered i think. i have heard of the bad cd changer issue, but i think i must have one of the good ones. i did have a rear o2 go out. i have the lsd but no sticker. you will love the vq power. i know i do! also, if you want the more traditional 4x4 mechanicals, put some manual locking hubs on her. -
not that anyone is following this, but i took the pathy back to firestone today for one last try. this time they got it right. the tech said that they were out of balance by as much as 2 oz. i now have weights on both inside and outside rim lips, which he said was the ideal way to balance when possible. also, while he had it up on the rack, i spun one of my rear wheels. LSD for me! a few months ago, i called my local nissan service dept with my vin and was told that i didnt have it! idiots. good thing i checked it, because my next maintenance item will be diff fluid flush and fill! wouldnt want to put the wrong stuff in.

i think the vibration is due to the tire install, as i had no vibration before the switch!

tk - i researched this to death also for my 01 se. i just recently replaced my stock size tires with 255/70/16 on my stock wheels. looks great with no rubbing. definitely fill out the well much more. i also have heard that the revos and bfg at are the two best tire options. they are also a bit pricey. i just got dunlop rover at's from discount tire for 96 each. they are a 50k mi tire, so i was pretty happy with the price. cannot seem to get them installed properly, but that is another issue. -thnkboutit-
