I was in the same dilemma as you are, but my friend just so happened to be selling his Audiobahn enclosure and super-nice Alpine V12 amp, plus all of the necessary wiring all for $200. Then I went to Circuit City, and it just so happened that the had a sale of Buy One Get One Free on the 10" Kicker Comps. Its more toward the bottom line at $80 retail, but it gets the job done for me and I have a spare one new in the box. (If you want it you can PM me.) I am more than happy, plus its installed to my stock Bose until I find the money to upgrade that. Go with a 10" and an okay sub, but with a nice amp and decent box. You won't be disappointed, and the ladies will be impressed too. Tomorrow I will borrow a digital camera and take some pictures of it.

Yep, thats my first post. But I am now looking for actual production numbers, as I and other owners are well-aware that it is very rare. What I am trying to say is that while many 1996-1999 XE and SE Pathfinders were equipped with the similar Sport package, I have only seen one other 1999.5 with the Off-Road Pkg. I was curious to see exactly how rare it is! Thank you very much for the compliments! If I can get my grubby hands on a digital camera I will be more that happy to take pictures of the assembly.

Does anyone know how rare my R50 is? Since the Off-Road package was only made in the 1999.5 models and the fact that I have only seen one other one in my life, I assume, at least in the U.S. it is rare. Mine was built in 1/99. I can give my VIN if anyone can look it up or something. Please somebody! Give me some bragging rights! Does anyone know how many were sold in the U.S.? Or how I can find out? Thanks! BTW, the Off-Road Package which I am talking about came with the external spare and rear viscous LSD. It came only on the 4wd obviously, and mine is a manual transmission. My signature pic is dated, imagine my pleasure when I took off the spare tire cover and saw my matching alloy rim! Can't believe it made it past Nissan cost-cutting!

Anyone have Sylvania Silverstar bulbs?
OR99.5Speed replied to findmypath's topic in 96-2004 R50 Pathfinders
NOOOOO!!!! Stop buying this crap! Silverstars are CRAP! There, I said it. Any bulb that costs $20 each and is tinted with a blue coating that reduces the life of the bulb to less than a year is retarded. Look online at the OSRAM Silverstar, it is the Euro version that is waaaay better. Much more light output, acclaimed by the press. These bulbs are the ticket. I have had several sets of the Sylvanias and they are crap. I finally wised up and bought Philips Vision Plus, a bit worse than the OSRAMs but no biggie. I wish I had the OSRAMs though. -
Well, if you have a 265mm tire, an 8" wheel is optimal, as is a 7'' wheel with a 245mm tire. My buddy has a 2001 GMC Sierra with 285/75 Dueler ATs on the 6.5" factory rim. The tire shop could barely do it, but nothing abnormal is noticeable, it just has a minimal affect on steering feel.

Haha, dammit! Thanks for the link, I know everyone complains about AC and I can see how the complaints are valid. Would have saved me almost $10!

Yes! I finally finished the install! It was worth it, all I needed were some connectors, a few feet of 16 gauge wire and a crimper, plus copious amounts of electrical tape. 20 minutes total for the two horns, and that includes all of the messing around. The sound of the new horns is a honk instead of a beep. There are a 400HZ and a 500HZ horn with the package. The sound is actually very close to the horn of my old Jeep Grand Cherokee. Since I have the cross-hatch grille the horns look cool and are quite visible from the front. They don't run the battery down, so I can have then go off when the car is locked remotely. For only $50 and, in my eyes, a necessary safety feature, it was money well spent. And to think the car stereo place wanted $100 just labor to do the job! Order the PIAA Sports Horns from AC now!

I prefer the 265/70/16, which is what I have on mine. They are all around 30.6" in diameter, opposed to a 245/70-16 which is 30.5" in diameter. Those measurements are for the Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revos by the way. A 245 is made for our 7" rims, while the 265 is made for an 8" rim, but no biggie. The tires on mine, as you can see in my signature, are 265/70-16 National XT Commandos, which are better than you may think and are made by Yokohama. What tires are you planning on buying?

Well, i bought the PIAA Sport Horn set from AC a week ago and it arrived in the mail. So I read the PIAA instructions on replacing my stock horns, and it seemed very easy... just cut a connector off of the factory wiring, and crimp a new 1/4" female blade connector and thats about it. I cut the wiring at the old factory connector, and find out that since the PIAA horns are so much larger than the factory horns, the wiring won't reach. To add insult to injury, the rubber insulator on the factory wiring came off in my hands, leaving a bare metal wiring hanging just below the radiator core support... Is this a hazard? Do i need to cover the wire or tape off the metal? I am hoping that Circuit City or another car audio place will install it, but one audio place said that these installs are $75- $125 per install, maybe more with this crap gone wrong. And everything said that this was easy! What do I do? What precautions do I need to take with that bare metal wire touching painted metal? Thanks!

Hey man. I had this problem on a 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee I had. It is the Brake Light switch. Not only are your brake lights sometimes staying on after driving, but they also stay on while driving, like you are riding the brakes and left-foot driving. Mine was located under the lower dash panel in the driver's foot well, near the OBD-II port. No clue of where the Pathy's is, but it should be near there. Hope you have a good back, but not a difficult job; mine was plug and play. The Jeep switch was $32 at the dealer. Good luck.

Well, there is no such thing as a 255/75-16; if there was I would be all over it. My uncle is a tire distributor for Yokohama, so I get free Yokos! And I just learned all of this today!!! HAHA! Im so excited! Well, I have 265/70-16 National XT Commandos, an off-brand tire of decent quality made by Yokohama that came with the Pathy. They are fine for the summer weather but when the snow falls when I am at school in Indiana I will need the Geolandar ATs. 265/70-16 works great, and I have noticed no rubbing, even off-road at full flex. They are 30.6 inches in diameter.

I have my 1999.5 Pathy that was built 1/99. I have 265/70-16 on it now, but plan on buying either Revos, Geolandars, BFGs, or Destinations. I am debating between 245/75-16, 265/70-16 or 275/70-16. I like the 275/70-16 idea the most, but didn't know if they were going to fit. Does anybody know of rubbing issues? 265/75-16 doesnt fit without a 1" lift, right? Also, there were some suspension changes starting with the 2/99 models... Does anybody know why the OME part number is different starting with the 2/99 date?

Preventive Maintenance Question
OR99.5Speed replied to pathfinderlude's topic in 96-2004 R50 Pathfinders
Hey, I also bought my 1999.5 Pathy in May 2005 with 93k miles. I had no clue of if the timing belt was changed, and the engine being an interference design, the belt needed to be replaced. I paid the dealer to do it, and decided to change the a/c belt, water pump, and tensioner at the same time. Wise move to do it all. Good luck! FYI, I paid about $600 parts and labor. -
Is there no way to get the standard 99.5+ SE/LE flares, like the ones on mine? I have no idea if they are drilled in or not though?

Remote entry reprogramming procedures, 96-up Pathy
OR99.5Speed replied to 88pathoffroad's topic in R50 FAQ's & Pinned Topics
Nice! My Pathy came with two remotes from the QX4, they are nicer than the Nissan ones. They look the same but the semi-circle thing at the bottom that holds in the key ring is chrome, not black plastic. And they say INFINITI with the little logo on the bottom. Thanks for the help! P.S.- Does anyone know if the key from the Anniversary Edition 2001 Maxima can be programmed to work on my Pathy? Thanks -
Last night, I had to go pick up some under-the-influence friends after a movie. So I go to the Pathy and there is no charge at all. Not even enough to dimly light the dash warning lights. It ran after being jumped off with cables, but even then the battery wouldn't hold a charge. The headlights would dim when the brake lights went on. When I switched on my fogs everything would get dimmer. When I switched on my brights my stereo would cut out. So I wasn't sure if it was the alternator or the battery, so I took it to Pep Boys (I know, I know). But as it turns out, it was a good experience. Turns out my alternator belt was cracked in places and the cheap Napa battery was shot. So a new belt and Red Top Optima and $238.40 later, the Pathy is ready for action. Just thought I would share! BTW: I love the Red Top! -bounce-

What kind of gas do you use in your R50?
OR99.5Speed replied to BigBikeMike's topic in 96-2004 R50 Pathfinders
I will add, however, that you should not only look at octane rating but also brand. I have read over and over in enthusiast circles that Shell and Chevron with Techron have the best quality gasoline. I'm not too sure if the gas mileage, etc. is better, I just have read that it is refined the most. Thats why I fill up at Shell for a few more cents a gallon than an el-cheapo gas station. -
New to Pathfinder- Headlight question
OR99.5Speed replied to OR99.5Speed's topic in 96-2004 R50 Pathfinders
Yeah, I can see what you are saying but 1) I need the better fog bulbs because I actually drive in fog and 2) I like the look of my white headlights and corner bulbs and yellow bulbs in the factory fog housings. Later on I plan on adding some sort of driving lamp. There is a mod using the inexpensive round Hella 500 driving lamps, swapping the Hella bulbs with some from a KC Daylighter and using a 40w relay. I would mount these on the factory front bumper top, in front of the grill flanking the Nissan hamburger. -

OR99.5Speed replied to BigBikeMike's topic in 96-2004 R50 Pathfinders
Just plain 87. The 2001 switched to premium with the new 3.5L. -
I really appreciate this link. It's really quick and easy to register, and it saved me from buying a Haynes. Thanks!

I don't know where you can buy a set of Terrano markers, but I do know that you can fit side markers from any car. My personal favorite is the MKIV (1999-2005) VW GTI/Jetta sidemarker. Of course, drilling is required, maybe you are less hesitant to drill into a fender than me. :o

Okay, now I feel like a moron. Does anyone know how to change out the fog bulbs on the 1999.5 and up Pathys? Do you have to remove anything? Thanks -

I went ahead and ordered a pair of Piaa Ion Crystal H3 55w for my factory fogs from LTB Motorsports. I am hoping for good fog/snow/rain visibility, as yellow light (which these bulbs probuce) are better for cutting through inclement weather than white and especially blue lights. My new H4 Phillips Vision Plus headlights are pretty whitish in color, so these should complement them well. BTW, this store was the cheapest and had the best shipping options. I should get them before next Tuesday. Pics will come! -
New to Pathfinder- Headlight question
OR99.5Speed replied to OR99.5Speed's topic in 96-2004 R50 Pathfinders
Thanks for the reply. I was 99% sure that the wiring would be fine, but you never know... I think I will be fine running the 60/55w bulbs. If you are looking for a truly brighter headlight, forget about the crappy Sylvania Sylverstars and get the Philips Vision Plus, a bulb that, along with the Osram Silverstars (the better version of the Sylvanias sold in Europe), is reasonably priced but is top-rated by the Euro mags. So I guess my 99.5 uses H4 bulbs in the headlights and H3 bulbs in the fogs? -
Hey yall, I just bought a 1999.5 Pathy to replace my totalled 1998 4Runner. But I have a question. My 4Runner's headlights were the H4 bulbs (Phillips Vision Plus - Power Bulbs). But what are the Pathfinders headlights? The owners manual is not in the car... I think H4 is in the head lights? Is there a such thing as frying the wiring harness using these bulbs? 12V 60/55w. Thanks so much!
