  1. I've been dealing with an oil leak under the bottom-end recently. I looked all over and diagonosed the source of the leak somewhere in the pulley(s) area. Took the pf to a repair shop to have all the seals (4) changed and figured the problem would stop, but... The leak slowed, whereas I would see less oil dripped onto the driveway overnight, but nonetheless its still leaking. I took it back to the shop to have them look it over again and now their diagnosis is: There is a CRACK in the oil pump, causing the leak? I'm looking at a serious repair bill as he claims it requires removal of the entire bottom-end, oil pan, and maybe the front-end?!?!?!?! I've never heard of oil pumps failing, at least not in this manner. What I first want to know is where is the oil pump located? Is it inside or outside the engine? If inside would I see oil leaking out even if the pump is failing? Wouldn't I just lose psi within the motor? I have a feeling he's trying to take bend me over and I told him to give me a day to decide whether to fix or not. I could take it back as-is but who knows how he'll put the car back together since I'm not giving him the business. Also, this place was referred by 2 ppl I know that's been going there for some time, w/o any problems. Help me decide whether to let this shop fix the leak!!! TIA
  2. Speaking of improving mpg, what is the tire psi on your rigs? I know the sticker on the door says 26psi cold, which I think is a bit low? I'm currently at 28 and am thinking of bumping it up to ~32. Is that too much? TIA
  3. Has anyone put these tires on their truck? How are they in wet/snow traction? I dont plan to do any off-roading, at the very most up the mountain to the ski slopes. TIA
  4. I bought the truck w/265/70/15's and am looking to replace the tires. Is that the stock sized tires or did the previous owner upsize it? Also, someone please provide to me the size of this tire in INCHES? I can't find any tire conversion programs online that would give me this info  Lastly, when you guys say 31X10.5X15, that's outer diameter of the tire, width, and inside diameter (rim size) correct? TIA
  5. I just acquired a 98 Pathy w/93k miles. I plan to replace the original timing belt ASAP, but am wondering if its necessary to replace the water pump and tensioner, since it involves about the same labor? How long does the water pump and tensioner tend to last? Anyway to tell its condition and whether it'll last for quite a bit longer? Thanks in advance!
  6. Anyone know how much it should cost to replace the timing belt and water pump at a local repair shop?
  7. "ABS relays inside the fusebox behind the battery" Yes I checked this fusebox as well as the one on the driver's side. What is the name of that relay/fuse? I looked on the cover of the fusebox and didn't see any ABS related relays? Could it have a different name or something? Thanks for the tips on figuring out whether it has ABS or not  I'll certainly chk them when I see the truck again. My concerns over it failing emissions is how can it fail 2X during its lifespan? First time may have been a fluke event like an open gas cap like you said, but 2X I think is a cause for concern. Are there any issues/sensors/hardware that are prone to fail on the pathy which would lead to an emissions failure? I won't be able to find out whether it'll pass or not until I purchase it and take it to an inspection myself. -thnkboutit-
  8. Hi All, Newbie here to the board. Its a bit of a surprise to see a board devoted to a SUV Anyways, I've been in search of a Pathy for awhile, and think I found the right one. 98 SE w/93k miles, for $7100. Good deal? But I have some concerns as follows: ABS brakes - From my research ABS is standard on 98 SE's correct? The truck I looked at DID NOT seem to have it, as I did not see an ABS indicator light on the dashboard when I started it up, and I could not find the ABS relays in the fuse boxes under the hood? Any other indications I could look for to determine if it has ABS? Emissions equipment - Accroding to carfax its failed NYS emissions 2X during the 8 yr span. First time in 1999 w/only 17k miles and 2nd time in 2002 w/71k. I thought the exhaust system was the culprit since I did hear rattling noises under the car as I revved it up (cat shield perhaps). However, it concerns me greatly that the truck failed its first emissions test after only ONE year on the road, so I figure it would be some sensor (O2 perhaps?) Is this a common problem? Anyone know how much it usually costs to replace a bad O2 sensor? Lastly, there is some rust on the rear differential case (first big black round housing from bottom rear) and some rust along the exhaust pipes. Should this be a concern or normal considering its age and location? Thanks for any tips/suggestions in advance!!!
