  1. It is done. What a difference it makes. Here is the old and new side by side (yes, they are both clean): Here is the old before removal. Note the glare coming off the light. I was getting people flashing their lights at me, they thought I had my high beams on: Here is the new, nice and clear:

    Engines

Looks like the HO version was 200 HP: Same link as above. Note that up to and including the 2000 Pathys all had the 3.3, the 3.5 did not show up till 2001.

I do not call 165 HP all that good from 4.3l and that is the stock rating, not 300 HP: from Consumer Guide S10 link You would be bettr off trying to shoe horn in a 3.5 VQ, with 240 HP. Or just buy a 01-04 Pathy
  4. Yup, get it here in the winter. We all know when the "winter" gas comes into town, our fuel consumption goes up. Probably depends on what part of the country you are in, I doubt that the "winter" gas in Vancouver or Victoria is as oxygenated as it is here in the interior. Just a thought anyway.
  5. Thanks, A couple of other suggestions I have received: GM's E.O.S.(Engine Oil Supplement) CD-2 Oil Detergent
  6. Funny thing is that the factory service manual for my 02 shows a rear tire carrier and all its parts. But as noted, very rare to actually find one on this style of Pathfinder.
  7. So the motor on the Pathfinder has been ticking for around 8,000 km. My shop in town told me to get it diagnosed at a dealer, which I finally did today. They say it is a lifter (that is what my mechanic thought too). All they did was add some Kleen Flow valve oil additive stuff and suggested doing this for the next 2-3 oil changes. If the noise does not go away after that, then it will be time to get into the motor and see what is up. I of course want to bring this to the well versed techs here at NPORA and see what you think. Is the dealers suggestion reasonable? Anything else? More info: 135,758 km; full synthetic oil since 100,000 km, changed every 5,000 km; no codes showing; no engine drivability issues. Except for the noise, the motor has not been this good for as long as I have owned it Have at it
  8. I should clarify, mine is a Reese hitch, not a Hidden Hitch. All the bolt holes lined up for me, with a little help from a floor jack
  9. Yup, assuming no changes between the '96 and '02, you should have no issues. Just remove the tie down plates and all the holes will be there. Its a pretty easy job, even for me Note though you will need longer bolts.
  10. On a side issue, I have been told by several Nissan dealers (Kamloops, Kelowna and Victoria) that the 3.5 is also subject to exhaust manifold issues, notably cracking, warping and broken studs. May explain the ticking I have right now
  11. So, I have to replace the headlight units on my Pathy (02) as the original ones are beyond repair from some sort of discolouration and the light output is significantly impacted, notably on low beams. I have tried lots of things, such as polishing the units, talking with a body shop, etc all to no avail. I have the new ones, any tips/things to watch out for when I get to doing the replacements? Thanks. Tman
  12. I thought she may have been referring to this, in a sarcastic sort of way knowing how she likes the Leafs:
  13. I do not see HitTheTrails at all, what are you seeing today?
  14. Just replacing the bulbs will help, since as the bulbs get old, they get a dark coating on the inside of the bulb, reducing the light output. Also, they may be dusty. That too will not help in light output.
  15. Check out the replies on CarTalkCanada, the sway bars are the consensus there. articsteve figures about $35 per side for aftermarket and $80 from the dealer.
  16. Based on what I have calculated and the size of the tank, I figure I could go to about 700 km as well before it runs dry. But I am not going to try it
  17. As has been discussed in depth a few times, the gas gauge on Pathfinders can be rather deceiving. Based on what my gauge shows me, I would be around the same as well, maybe a bit more. But the fuel put in really tells the tale. My gauge will say I have only 1/4 tank left (ie 60l consumed) but all I can get in will be a little less than 50l. At the 1/2 tank (40l) all I get in is just over 30l. Based on actual consumption, I can get an easy 600 km per tank.
  18. The 04's do not have torsion bars, they are coil springs front and back. May be a bushing, those Quebec roads can be rather hard on cars I hear
  19. As has been posted before, the only true way to calculate gas mileage is to record kms/miles driven and fuel put into the tank, then do the calculation. Over the time I have had the my 02 (almost 80,000 kms) I have been averaging around 24-26 mpg on the highway (not correcting the odo reading for the larger tires). It really depends on how you drive, it can get decent mileage for what it is.
  20. I've done around 60-70 kms and still put in less than 70l of fuel. The light and gauge are totally wonky, at least its on the safe side The gauge will show 1/2 tank but I can only get in around 30-32l, just under the 1/4 mark gets 50l. Go figure. The other point to remember is that it is not a good thing to run the tank dry, the fuel pump relies on the fuel to keep it cool and you also risk uptaking any sediment that may be in the bottom of the tank. Not good for the injectors if it gets that far.
  21. So I took a look at my 3.5: it is on the drivers side, it appears to be under the AC pump, so quite far forward but with the skids on, it is hard to see the exact spot. WRONG: Here it is, from the service manual: Looks like there may be 2 of them, one on each side. The drivers side is at the rear.
  22. I will take a look in the morning to see where it goes. I had to find the cord and uncoil it, it had never been used as the beast was from Vancouver. Must have been quite the shock when 1 month after I bought it, it was in -34 temps.
  23. Check out this thread: Windows Seizing Thread, all you wanted to know and then some.
  24. On my previous trucks, such as F250's, I ran ice chains on the back but with the Pathy all I can run are cable chains on the rear. This is why you can not run chains on the front: Note the lack of clearance. Also, does your Q have the AllMode transfer case? If so, there may be issues with that too.
