Now did you take the pic before or after you pulled the guy out?...
Before Actually before I started taking pictures. And he panicked too. Wanted to go back and get his lunch and tools from the cab. Problem is that the machine was pointed downhill and the door had to be swung up-hill and held so he could get out. Sort of scary for a few moments. I have worked in the woods for nigh on 30 years and this was the first time I had been on seen of such a machine fire. I had talked with the operator a about 1/2 hr before this and was just up the hill form him when I noted the smoke.
Here is the cab after:
And the motor (fire was a result of the fuel line bursting and spraying diesel on the turbo/exhaust manifold. Do not know why the built-in suppression system did not work):

What model engine is that? loos like one I got packed up somwhere from one of my sets
It is a General Motors of Canada (GMD) SW1200RS. 1,200 hp, with some nonstandard stuff like the dynamic brakes. larger fuel tank and roof mounted air reservoirs for the train brakes. When new, they looked like this (note it is no longer Canfor but now Western Forest Products):
To my knowledge, no scale model of this has ever been made except maybe in brass but even then I am not sure about. This is one of the "must haves" for me to do up someday.

I work in forestry. Here is a selection of photos:
Stuck in a Forest Service truck:
Logging locomotive (yep, still one railway logging operation around):
One of my rides last year (better than being stuck in a Forest Service truck ):
What I saw from the ride above Dead pine as far as you can see:
One of my client's buncher going up and I had to drag the operator out of the cab:

The 2000 and 2002 are now both within five owners of the minimum.

I had one of those "bumper guards" on my R50 before I sold it, a Westin actually. Had two KC Daylighters mounted on it too.
One wheeling trip and that thing was dented and mangled to bits on the underside. It was aluminum and not worth a sh!t as far as strength goes...
Web site says its made from stainless steel though?
BT, what is it made from?
And why not just mount the tow hooks on the underside of the guard with the longer bolts, then no issue with the upper mounts?
Cool find anyway, thanks for sharing.

WTF is Dominion Day?
B
Just shows how old I am
From Wikipedia:
Dominion Day is or was a commemoration day of the granting of national status in various Commonwealth countries.
Canada
Dominion Day (French: Le Jour de la Confédération) was the original anglophone name of the holiday that commemorated the formation of the Dominion of Canada on July 1, 1867. The holiday was renamed Canada Day (Fête du Canada) on October 27, 1982.

Happy Dominion Day to all my fellow Canucks!

what? most japanese cars sold here are made here in the states but i am willing to bet that none of the toyota, honda and nissan workers are part of uaw.
Yep, our Sienna was built in the States (Tennessee I think?).
The following are just some of the "Japanese" cars made in NA (some in Canada, some in the US, a few in both):
Acura MDX; Honda Civic, Pilot, Accord, Ridgeline, CR-V, Odyssey; Toyota Matrix, Corolla, Camry, Tundra, Sienna; Lexus RX350; Subaru Legacy; Nissan Altima, Maxima, Pathfinder, Titan; Infiniti QX56; Mazda 6, Tribute.
And how about the "nasty" Germans? I guess we should not be buying their cars either as they were at one time "the enemy" too.
Actually, I think that Americans should not buy cars made in Canada, remember 1812?

This just blows me away and I am ashamed that a Canadian union rep has to pull this kind of crap:
" Union leader urges Americans not to buy Japanese vehicles, invokes Pearl Harbour
Posted: June 18, 2008, 2:44 PM by Nicolas Van Praet
A senior labour leader with the Canadian Auto Workers union confronted Americans buying Asian cars recently about their choices and compared Japanese car dealers to the enemy in the Second World War, according to a union summary of the trip.
Ron Carlyle, the CAW's chair representing workers at General Motors Corp.'s car plant in Oshawa, Ont., spoke at a GM union leadership meeting this past spring about a trip he took to a NASCAR event in the United States. Minutes of the meeting, dated March 20 and posted on the CAW Local 222 website, describe what Mr. Carlyle said.
"Ron spoke about NASCAR trip. He questioned Americans buying Kia, Toyota, Honda. Reminded them of 9/11. 'Would you buy from Iraqi or Afghani dealerships?' Their response was 'No!' So Ron asked 'Why do you buy from Japanese dealers? - What about Pearl
Harbour?'"
Mr. Carlyle was one of the CAW leaders who recently travelled to GM's headquarters in Detroit to attempt to convince the company's senior executives to reverse a decision to shut down the Oshawa truck plant next year. The union has so far failed in attempts to keep the factory open.
Financial Post"
So how do all us Pathy owners feel about being compared to "the enemy"?

Stock height now, don't think I'll be lifting any time soon.
According to the that link trainman posted it looks like they don't make the stock size which is 255/65/16. Looks like I'll be looking for a different tire.
I am running 245/75R16 (both winter and summer tires) without any issues and they do come in that size.
More info here: Link
When the Hankooks need replacing, I will probably get Revo's.

....suggests I look at different tire....
Or maybe a different tire store? Seems weird. Try the Bridgestone web site to see what sizes are available:

those guys need to write the next chapter. I love the reading even though it was obviously a joke. I think the best part was the morons who chime in as if it were real.
Your right, time for the next level

Some of my model train projects have been sitting for a while, like this conversion of an American RS11 to a Canadian RS18, BC Rail version:
The RS11 looks like this:
While the RS 18 looks like this:
My project has been on hold for about 10 years now. Of course, in that time a Canadian manufacture has brought out a RS18

So this is what we are paying here in Merritt this weekend:
Propane: $0.78.9 / l
Regular gas: $1.42.9 / l
Diesel: $1.45 / l
I hope it goes down a bit during the week so I can fill up before my 500 km drive to the Kootneys next week.

This is the only reference in my 02 FSM:
Sorry for the poor quality, but all I can do on short time.

Link goes to a skidplate discussion thread. o.o
Left over from a post on NissanForums. Not sure why it was still in memory.

Bizzare if true........
The story really takes off at post 7, then is very funny for the next 6 pages or so. Lawyer sells his bike to "Joe" from Nigeria, who pays with a cheque for $12,000 more and gets the extra money wired back
Edit: That's what you get for not checking links before posting and taking the kids to school. Me badddddddddd. Now fixed.

I know of no such feature, or of having an "auto up"
My truck has both auto up and down on both front windows. But I have never heard of this re-set feature but then again I have never needed it.
I can also make my front windows go down with the remote, a real nice feature when its warm out..............still waiting for it to be warm out tho.............

Well, does not look like he has any issues with frame rot

I'm actually looking at getting a SMART car and modifying it to use a 2 stroke lawnmower engine to power a generator, and going pure electric biggrin.gif
Think about that for a moment; that would be concidered a hybrid, not pure electric.

With the downturn in our industry, I hardly have a use for my truck anymore except to drive to far away towns (2,000 kms last week). I am looking maybe to go smaller/more fuel efficient rather than bigger
