Tire Trends have them for $138.95/tire, plus shipping plus taxes and eco-fees (or about $170/tire before the shipping costs). I would have to pay mounting and balancing on top of that.
For Canada, it was an OK price to buy local. What I get is free rotations but more importantly road hazard at all Fountain Tire stores in Canada.
I wish we had the same kind of tire deals you 49'ers have...........sigh
-
and what size that was that you couldnt get any others...
215/65R16 is the size. Biggest issue with the size is the way the AWD works. The spare needs to be the same size if you get a flat or you have to do a tire change tango (both tires on the front the same, space saver to the rear only) plus put in a fuse to disable the AWD. A real pain and try to explain that to my wife......And I did not want to put out for 5 tires, so one of the originals is now the spare.
Cost was $900 CDN installed.

nice are you going to stud them for winter like the last set?
Nope, they will be run all year so no studs and we are seeing a lot of places were studs are not allowed, like parking garages.
Don't worry, I will keep all abreast of how they work as long as you keep letting me post non-Nissan stuff

So here it is:
Similar up front too (one per end, left side as looking at it).
Wonder how good it will be?

The Subi got its new boots yesterday, General Grabber AT2. The only AT type tire that is available in the size I need:
So now I will be able to go where 95% of Pathies fear to tread ('cause they never leave the mall )

Dumb A$$ Albertans!!!!!!!
Well, I did say that but as I was in a Dodge 3/4 ton P/U at the time, my guess is the dumb a$$ Albertan in the Frontier in question did not hear me (he deiced to pass a bunch of cars at the end of a 2 lane, on the right, in the paved shoulder, just to get stuck behind a longer line of campers etc. west of Sicamous).

I'm not saying it is useless, a POS or anything, I'm just saying that again 'exceptional off-road capability' is not a description that applies.
It makes complete sense that you got one Trainman, and I hope it is as reliable and useful as your old pathy. Just don't tell me we are going to go out wheeling...
B
No problems B, I was just pointing out that it has more potential than maybe some might give it credit for. I would not even dream of taking it where the Pathy would go, but it will go places most cute-utes won't.
And I miss the Pathy and not having to worry about the trail conditions.
-
Agreed with the color, but Dude, it's a car... All wheel drive and whatever, but it has car clearance. 1 real rut and the wheels are hanging and there is plastic to pick up. It's a perfectly good vehicle for what it is meant for but it does not have "excellent off-road capability"!!
B
It has 9" of ground clearance, 24 degrees of approach angle, 27 departure and 30 breakover. The GC is more than the published number for my departed 02 Pathy.
What it does not have is a low range.
And its NO CAR Dude!
What I like is they have tucked up all the under-guts so there is not much hanging down, unlike some other cute-utes that leave things like the muffler exposed.
Now has 3,700 kms on it, averaging 8.8 l/100 kms (or 32 mpg for you metric challenged types). Waiting to get some good rubber (General Grabber AT2 seems to be the preferred tire for this truck) before doing any serious off-road stuff.
Clean pictures:

Subaru, I didn't know you were a lesbian?
Seriously though, I think I would have given you more cred if you HAD bought a Heep.
Hmmmm, lesbian? That would require quite a bit of modifications that I am not sure my wife would approve of
And I would give you more credit if you drove a R50
Ha Ha........

My 02 Chilkoot, with AllMode, had the factory LSD. So should not be an issue. But good tires are a must for snow, I had no issues using my studded Traction Kings:
The beast would push snow with the bumper uphill on some of the logging rds around here I used for work.
I've got a 2004 with All-Mode 4wd that is less than impressive in the snow (some of this may be due to the VDC). I was wondering if I could drop a Nissan LSD in the rear axle (not much help, I know) or is it not a compatible axle? I considered putting an ARB in, but thats a little overkill, and a locker in the snow is not always good. Also, I seem to remember that an Xterra LSD is a little "tighter" and may also fit in some Pathys? Thanks,
Steve

I am on the road this week (Nelson, Grand Forks, Cranbrook) so will respond to the requests for shipping prices when I get home or if I can figure out how to do it while on the road. If I recall right, the shipping in Canada was almost as much as the cost of the skids themsleves, so I am not sure if it is cost effective to ship them south of the line.
Trainman, I am really sorry to hear about this. I hope you do stick around, I've always appreciated your posts here.By any chance, did you sell the cargo barrier you had with the truck?? (I think you had one)
Thanks Pezzy and yes I still have the cargo barrier. Its a $100 Canadian Tire item, not sure its worth shipping to Ont? Also, I may use it in the Foz so will be hanging onto it for a bit.
I too appreciated all your posts...not too many with the VQ R50 posting around here...maybe just my opinion but there it is!Sorry dude...I sent a pm requesting the skids--shipped...did not read well enough! If I could coax you into shipping them then please send me a quote!
...and though you bought a suby, please let us know her real handling disposition as well!!
No problem and yes, updates on the Foz will occur if wanted. Here is a picture to start. Its pretty dirty but the colour hides it well:

Thanks everyone, the comments are much appreciated.
Yes,. the 3.5 requires premium fuel although I was able to run it for a couple of years on regular without any real issues. But as the kms accumulated and maybe the fuel quality around here went down, it started to require the good stuff. The change from premium to regular has saved me 10-15% just on the cost difference. That's the reason I did not get the turbo Forester, just the regular one.
-
Basically economic considerations forced me to get rid of the Pathfinder. It was (and will be for its new owner I am sure) a good truck but was not needed for its off-road ability. I can count on 2 hands how many times its been in the bush the last 2 years, and none of those trips required 4wd of any kind. As a business vehicle, it needs to make sense and the Pathy did not any more.
What replaced it? NOT a Jeep
But another built in Japan goodie, a 2009 Subaru Forester X with the Canadian Touring package. I did a work trip to Fort St. James on the Pathy a month ago and used 200l of premium fuel. Did the same trip with the Foz last week and used 145l of regular fuel and traveled 300 km more to boot. I estimated over the first 2,000 km of driving I have reduced my fuel costs by about 40%. And with 30,000 km/yr of driving, mostly highway, that adds up to big savings for a small business.
The Pathy will be missed for sure, it was a good, solid truck.
I removed the BP skid plates and will be posting them for sale in the for sale section sometime when I can get my act going. I also have winter tires on rims for it that will also be up for sale. But you will need to come and get them.
I will hang around here, this is a good community and will be too hard to give up.

Looks real nice!
How about Suzie? And then you can play Devils Gate Drive

Simon, GG, you both run external coolers and live in cold country. Any issue with the auto tranny running cold?
I have had issues with my R50 and the aftermarket trannie cooler running too cold in winter. The dealer ended up running at this one is, in-line with the stock rad cooler to keep it warm in winter.
But what kind of winters do you get?
-
I use Toyota rims for my winters, 16", they were cheaper than Nissan steelies (and yes they are available from a dealer):
Not a great shot of the wheels but they work fine.
BTW, mine are now for sale if anyone in BC wants to make an offer

Sorry, thought i read somewhere it was august 2001 they started the vq35.
It was the August 01 build date that the VQ in our Pathys went from easy-to-adjust shims for the lifters to expensive bucket type. You know, the kind that require the motor to be removed to replace a simple little thimble sized piece. The $3,000 solution, thanks Nissan
-
...Also could be lifters.
Check out my thread on a collapsed lifter. Big ouch time: Collapsed Lifter Thread

SWEET!!! I love things!! Kubelwagons are techincally better, but still... Hell, they were Rommel endorsed...

Just catching up on this thread. There were 10 of them all told, on an outing to BC. All were from the states, and there were 24 people, men, women and children, in the 10 Things. Photo taken at Rossland, BC

My Pathy surrounded by Things
or maybe my next ride?
-
Well, my dad has a 2000 pathfinder, with 115k on it and no problems, before that he had a 93 that we got 220k out of it before he gave it to me, it still runs fine. And now I have a 95 with 150k that runs mint and is in prime condition.
Must have got a lemon, I know a few people around here with the 3.5L and no problems
Of course those 2000 and 93 and 95 do not have the 3.5 motor and it looks like the 3.5 is being a bit more of a problem child than was expected.
Consumer Reports has dropped the 01-04 Pathy to average for reliability. Average reliability combined with above average repair costs does not make for happy ownership.
And the OP has some valid points re the design of the 3.5. IE Why would anyone design a mechanical valve train that requires the motor to be removed just to do a valve adjustment? It will cost me $3,000 for that simple valve adjustment so it will not be happening anytime soon.
