Rear locker, one of the best mods you could do for wheeling.

How many others have confidence in the Pathy

4 link is good!!! Those trucks you speak of with one shock on each side of the axle are leaf sprung, which isnt bad,PLENTY of people have been doing nice leaf sprung setups but they can have bad axlewrap, and 4 links wont get that wrap like a leaf srpung suspension will. -

yea lol, the first time i ever did it wasnt on purpose, i snapped my rear swap bar and so i just had to rock with out one and saw that it did help the flex. I wouldnt suggest on road driving with out the rear one though lol. Im used to hoopty wheelers that have tons of body roll and it even worried me ha ha -

Well as far as the weight, Xj's are a unibody rig while your pathfinder has a boxed frame. From what ive notice while wheeling mine is the weight over the rear end on top of it being 4 linked helps plant that axle on the ground and hook pretty good. The IFS fronts dont do too much but the rear susp stock, esp if you disc the rear sway bar before wheeling, flexes pretty amazing for a stock older rig. Yea the 3.0 isnt a powerhouse but it does the job decent enough. Just be careful when pulling people out, I love helping fellow wheelers esp when they need it most, but at the same time, Ive had to get towed home cause I tried to tow a 8 lug k5 out of some mud and it tore my tie rods up. -

Honestly I think its half the fun of driving a pathfinder. Guys in Jeeps and other rigs will look at my pathfinders ive had on 31s open front and rear and ill go places they never thought. Its to the point that when I had to get rid of my last pathy and ended up with a solid axle yota, my buddies were telling me I needed to get another pathy. So if I can make believers out of people that would never even look twice at my rig, then Id say that I have load of confidence in them lol. Esp if you pop the links off the rear sway when you get to your wheeling spot lol -
well i have been toying with the idea for a long time and i think i may start on this project. i have always wanted to build a pre runner out of my pathy and when i get another DD in a couple weeks, i want to start. first off on the list is the swap to 2wd instead of my 4 wheel drive. i like my 4 wheel but two wheel will be so much easier to make. other than the obvious removing drivetrain (front axle and xfer case) what problems will i encounter? do i have to steal some parts from a 2wd nissan truck (back part of tranny) that was meant for 2wd since my xfer case will not be there? will all my electronics work fine with the removal of the xfer case? and depending on what tail section (of tranny) i use, will i need a longer driveshaft? as always all help and opinions is welcomed and appreciated.

i do have an auto. everytime i start my vehicle, the power button flashes for awhile. and when i tried to check my ecu, it doesnt seem to work like in the directions say. i forgot, for my year do i have either one of these tranny's (RE4R01A/RL401A)? cuz i found the tranny code retrevial that i might try today.
-
ok, i have had a strange tranny problem where if i bounce around alot, my path goes into some sort of limp mode where all i have is 1st and 2nd and to get to first i have to manually put it there. i wasn't sure why but some of you guys said you think it could be a loose wire under it. well i decided to look around under there for awhile and found this, the farthest right plug thing, its a black wire. ( the right side of the pic is towards the front of the vehicle) its cut but is still connected. it was on the passenger side and is by the xfer case and trans. could this be the culprit to my problems???????

http://ruggedrocksoffroad.com/ they sell something you might be interested. they send your ecu to be flashed

well i think that looks pretty snazzy!! now just a thought i got when i saw your drive shaft, do you think if you added somethin like a shock boot on that joint would help from anything gettin in there? i was thinkin that could help keep the splines clean and would be really cheap.

well i didnt think an exhaust leak could be that loud. like i thought they were a soft tick. its pretty soft but i can still hear it when i drive. OH, another thing i noticed, you can hear it best when someone rev's up the engine a lil and on the down rev, you can hear it best. well i logged at least 550-600 miles on it last week and the noise is the same. so i am starting to think it is an exhaust leak.
-
ok more details, i have never replaced the exhaust manifold studs, it seems to be a lil louder when its cold. when its fully warmed up i can hear it while driving slow with window down or at idle, so its not like it sounds like i have a baby diesel under the hood. the noise follows engine speed and i dont really hear it higher in the rpm's. its coming from the driver side and when i put my head by engine bay i can hear it alot louder. my path never seemed to have as much power as my 89 did and they were almost identical, but thats a different problem, it seems to be running pretty good.

ok, earlier this week my engine on my dd blew up and lit on fire, so i had to start driving my pathy everyday. well i noticed that it has what sounds like a rod knock. how can i figure out if thats what it is exactly? i cant afford to blow up another engine. i'm really hoping its not a rod knock cuz i already started buying parts for my pathy's make over. is my best bet to just put a stick around on the engine and try to find where its coming from? please let me know if there are any other ways or by this time next week it could be gone. thanks

cool, i think i will try that one of these days, but would that really make it feel like its runnin rich?
-
well i actually payed a shop to do my timing once since i dont have a gun and no one has ever showed me how to do it so for all i know they could have done a @!*% job on my timing. and it doesnt always die after a rev like that just when its cold and some rare occasions
-
well the was some corosion on the cap and rotor yesterday when i looked so i sanded it down (no money at this exact moment for parts, but soon) and i pulled the plugs to see how they looked. strangly they looked pretty good. no carbon build up, light tan core, no oil or anything. i did not get to pul all of them though. i have dirt packed around alot of them so much that a spark plug socket wont ever grab so i need to clean those out pretty soon. and the wires i dont think are very old at all. air filter is clean and fuel may be a lil old but still should be decent. now i just fired it up and let it warm up a bit. but when i reved it up a lil a couple times it back fired out the throttle body (i had air filter assembly off and was reving it from under the hood). then i tried doing a full rev to redline just to see what it would do, it did it fine, maybe a lil slow but not too horrible but when i let off and the tach was goin down it went all the way down and my vehicle stalled. oh and is the MAF the plug on the drivers side of the throttle body?
-
ok, will my ecu show tranny codes? cause then i can just look there and see why its acting funny.
-
ok, my 88 has never felt like it has full power compared to my old 89, the 88 has no low end at all. and if its cold or hot or anything, at idle or while driving if i hit the throttle fast is almost stalls. once its warmed up it idles fine and at the right speed but i just dont feel i am getting all my power and that it feels like its running really rich. what could be the problem?

My odometer stop working, any ideas on how to fix?
calibeater replied to zack1978's topic in 90-95 WD21 Pathfinders
i had the same thing happen to my 88, mine made this wierd click sound for awhile then stopped workin, never did fix it lol -
does this mean anything, when ever i fire it up the power light from my tranny flashes a couple times.
-
ok i will check that out. i hope thats if cuz on my last path, it was the tranny that died and i dont want that to happen to this one. i will post back after i tinker with it, which might not be today, hopefully tomorrow
-
its all stock, no new tranny lines or coolers, and the fluid needs to be changed. i thought it must be a electircal porblem or something. but i also thought if it was it would throw a engine light but it doesnt. oh and my path has bout 185k on it.

hi, new to your forum but i've had two pathfinders, wheeled them both and my mom has an xterra that i've wheeled. but now to my problem, my pathfinders tranny is acting wierd and i need some advise. if i am driving it rough or bounce it hard it seems like it goes into some sort of limp mode, it wont go past 2nd gear, i have to manually down shift if i want 1st gear and even then if feels like the torque converter is slipping and that i'm only getting bout half the power i should have. but then i let it sit for awhile and it goes back to normal. what could this be?
