  1. Ok. Listen. I just Picked up D21Man's 89 pathy. After Working on varuous Rust spots and Such it is comming time to Replace the Ehaust. I need From the Manifold Back to the Cat. My Question, Is it Better to Remove both sides and the Bolts from the Cat, Take it all down, Buy and fabricate a New Y Pipe Assembly and Install, Or is it better to Just Break down and buy it. And if it is better to buy, Where can i get it CHEAP! I am Broke Broke Broke and I need to Get this Darn Thing Through inspection. It will NEVER pass with the ammount of Exhaust that's Invading my Cab! Any Help would be Appreciated. if anyone's Got one thats Not Rotted, I have a Bunch of Pathy parts that i could possible Swap ya For. Thanks All and for all!
  2. I was able to assist D21 in Getting a Manual Tranny for his 87.... He assisted me in a Pathy year Upgrade. hehhe....
  3. ok. I have had a auto 87 for the past year. and i loved the Power but allways hated the Dog-O Matic. I just Picked up D21Man's 89 Pathy, and its manual. HOLY HANNA! I love that Thing. its Geared way way low (as you know) and Just Fun to Drive. also got MUCH better Gas Mileage with the 89 5speed Vs the 87 3 speed!
  4. TO Remove the Spedo Cable, Do the Following.... Under the Vechicle, Passengerside, look toward the rear of the Tranny, after the Xfer Case. Look for a Black Wire/cable about the Thickness of a Peice of rg/59 (cheap TV Cable). IT will have a Twist Off end, almost like an CB Antenna Connector. Untwist it with your Fingers or a Pair of Pliers, but dont Grab ultra hard, you might colapse the End and totaly mess things up. When its Off, be Carefull not to let the Inner Cable Drop out of the Truck. (i dont know if it will fall out completely, I just know it moves a bit). I would Tie up the End of the Cable and place a wall mart or Smaller Bag over the end and Tape the Heck out of it to keep it clean and dry. as far as the hole in the tranny goes, if its Short Term, i would Cover it with some Heavy Duct Tape, or some tape and a Peice of cardboard. If its Going to Be Long Term, i would just to a boneyard and Yank about 6 inches of the Spedo Cable off of a wrecked Pathy or d21. Plug the End with a Heavy Bolt Threaded in with some Expoy or Silicone and Attach to your Tranny. This way you dont mess up the Tranny or the cable. Heeck, my 87 probbaly has 200k + miles on it but it only says 177! hehe. But i Cheated, mine actually Broke! Good Luck and let me know how it works out!
  5. Im Picking up a Superlift Body Lift kit and i was wondering, is there any Mods i need to make to Extend the Length of the Steering Shafts from the steering wheel to the Box? Is there enough Telesoping to do so, If any? THanks
  6. Here;s What i Do. And Im Sure d21man will agree. travel at Normal speeds in each Gear. Learn what Engine RPM 55-65 MPH is in Highway Gears. This way. you can Guesstimate how fast your Going. For Example. my 87 Pathy has the Old 3 Spd Automatic, and when im in my 3rd Gear on the Highway, 5,000 RPM Equals out to be about 75-80 MPH. See! No Spedo, No Problem! sly
  7. are these just to attach the Fuel line to the Frame or other Point? or are they supposed to do something for the Fuel Delivery or something.

    Hello

here's an Idea. Is there a Timing Shunt or Electronic Component that has to be Disconnected to adjust the Timing at the Distrib. I know on every other Nissan that i have ever worked on there is something that had to be disconnected. Any Thoughts on that?
  9. I have Heard that the Stuff does work to a degree, Unless you have excess Gunk in your Oil already, Then it just clogs Stuff up. I prefer Lucas Oil stabilizer. Works Great! Less filling!
  10. Heres an Idea, DISCONNECT THE SPEDO at the Tranny. It takes a whole 30 secconds to do! just COVer the hole whiles its out!
  11. Mine is DEF Electrical. I have threaded a Digital Themometer into the Air Purge Port on the Cooling system. Ranged from 170-190 Degrees. I have a 180 Degree Thermostat, so id say tahts kosher. But my Gague Reads BEYOND H almost at Startup so i Know its Electrical. Thanks for the advice though
  12. I have owned 5 Diffrent Nissan Vechicles with a variant of the vg30 Engine and ALL have Ran 20/50 with NO problems and i Drive HARD. I beat the Living crap out of my Maxima and i Ran it with 20/50 for over 250K miles (I bought it at 77 and got rid of it way over 320k miles) Never had Nothing But good things to say about it. But if its REALLY REALLY COLD where you are (im talking 30 or below). Then Stick with 10/40 but i would NEVER Run 5/30 in a Motor that I drive. It would Degrade Faster than i can Change it! Also, Synthetic Molecules are Smaller than Conventional oil, so what conventional oil would Fill, Syntheic Slips right by and does Cause more Leaks. If you buy it new, Run the synthetic, But i wouldnt run syhnth after 25,000 miles.
  13. got an 87 here, I fire the Sucker up, and my Gage does just the Same Damm Thing!! But my Engine is Not Overheating. its some kind of a Gage issue. I think it may be that Voltage regulator Issue posted in one of the other posts. I havent looked into mine yet, but i noticed my Oil Pressure and my gas gage reads higher.
  14. Im In the midst of Installing one now. I have an 87. basically, as long as you have your Reverse Light switch, and Netural Saftey Switch Hooked up you should be A ok. I bypassed my Inhibit Switch alltogether and ran a Signal Wire from the Start position of the key directly to the starter. Might i suggest while you are in there, Replace the Rear Main Seal. I havent Gotten to the Driveshafts yet, but i got mine complete with Shafts and Such. Ill have some Pics soon of the Changeover. Good Luck!!! PS, The Clutch Pedal is a PAIN if you DONT Pull the Pedal Pin out!! ( not the Pin that holds the Slave Cyl to the Pedal, but the Pin that the Pedal Rides on. If thats off, its a sinch!)
  15. ok. i have purchased the Accell Do it yerself wire Kit. Worked GREAT! I never Gotten such a Long Period of Use out of a set of Plug Wires. Great Set, and for the Price, yum! Got my Vote, and as a matter of fact, thats probbaly going to be my Next Purchase once my Major Conversions are done!
  16. Im selling the blasted thing for 25 bucks + shipping! Im DEF not Giving the CPU away. its my Spare!!
  17. quick one Guys... Got a buyer intrested in my Transmission from an 88 Pathy 4x4 3.0 V6. Its the 4 spd OD model, Not the 3 Spd. he wants to Know if it will Fit in a 95. I think it would. Any thoughts?
  18. hey, I got an used starter out of an 88 if you are intrested. Make me an Offer, but dont forget about shipping. Sucker is HEAVY!!!
  19. Sorry Guys, it Got Crushed today. But the Bed was Rotted BAD> That and the Fact the frame was starting to go was the reason why i didnt recondition it. I felt it was more Profitable to Suck the Tranny Out and make my Pathy a Stick. Im sooo happy that i was able to Unplug ALL Wires from the automatic and bypass the Inhibit Switch. I Tested That about 6 months ago and was Driving the Thing Alll winter. (i got the old Junky 3 spd Automatic) So you can understand Why i am So h@ll Bent on a Changeover! If you want a HBPU Bed For a Trailer. I run across Old HB's and Pathys all the Time (mostly Rotted). but i if i get one witha good bed, Ill let ya all Know! oh and BTW, I got 70 Bucks for it. It weighed Without the Tranny 3800 PDS. But i had the Bed Full of old Pathy Parts. (doors and Such)
  20. Parts are not a problem. I have Just about any Part i Need. (i had a seccond Pathy i picked up that was in a rollover, so i stripped all its parts off of it and put em on the shelf. It allows me to Troubleshoot by Replacement if need be). Im doing a conversion from auto to Manual tranny in the next week or two and i had intentions of replacing the fuel tank and pump. I am Going to preform a Pressure test and See what it reads up, but that probbaly wont be untill later this week. she's Runnoing OK at lower RPM, so if i have to move it, i can. Thanks for your assistance Guys. I will post Again, so keep on checkin!
  21. Local Boneyard dont want it. So when i say Scrap Yard, I Mean Steel Recycling Ahoy! I get to watch them Squish it with a whole bunch of other Metal into a Neat and tidy 4x4x4 Cube. Hehe. Ill get a whole 5 Bucks for it that way!! I really dont Care. I dont want to take it out of the 86 HBPU thats its in. I just got done Sucking the Tranny Out of it for my 87 Pathy. so i got what i wanted! If anyone wants it, They can have the Entire Truck. (or whats Left, I rolled it on its Side to extract the Tranny.) I got it full of scrap Metal and I should Get about 50 dollars for the whole mess. And it Gets the wife off my Backside! thats the most important thing!
  22. ok. Got an Update here. Changed the TPI Sensor, Replaced the Fuel Filter and Checked the Timing. All A Ok. The motor Runs Great untill it hits 3000 RPMS. Then It surges From 2,500 to 3,000 RPM. My Father and I feel that it may be a Failing Fuel Pump, As it was Leaking as Described in a past Post (someone elses). Im going to Replaced The Entire Tank and Pump. I think my Pickups are Rotted. the Pump and the Regulator makes a Funky Buzzing Sound which makes me all the more suspicious. I did check the gas quality and there was no Problem. Any Further ideas? or do you all think im headed in the right Direction?
  23. I Replaced the Entire Distrib. i got en entire engine for parts here so i dont Mind Replacing them if Need be. Ok So i Replaced the MAF Sensor. I shall Make the Change to the TPS and see how she Does. It really cant Be Driven Right now in the Condition its In. But I Really feel its a TPS sensor issue. Thanks for all your Help..
  24. Ive been Thinking. I really really really Hate that "Nissan Orange" for the Spedo and Tach. ASIDE from Purchasing new backing Plates or Colored Plastic Stickons and such, will any other Model year Fit in an 87. Preferably one with a little more upodated Ipannel. Now mine Does have that Nifty 1/4 Tank Gas Gague, i dont remember if any other model has that. Any Input or Advice would be cool.
  25. I got a 4 cyl z24 Im Sending to the scrapyard soon. It runs Great, but I have no need for it. Its a shame to Toss it. Good running motors... Really cant Complain!
