Gotrek
Our pathfinder has the ever common (at least here) frame rot. The rear frame is rusting through. It's been fixed once before and has rusted again (7 years later) Do they sell frame caps for pathfinders? I know they do for old mopars but I'm wondering if anyone makes a convenient piece for pathy's

A frame cap is like a U shaped piece of steel bent so it slips over the original frame rail and is welded to what's left.

John Boy
Without starting another thread......... My frame is not rusting through, but there is a fair amount of rust so am wondering, without going crazy with it and seeing how the rust is making itself work from outside in if I was to just spray paint her undercarriage down would it buy me some time? GrimGreg
Nope, it will just keep rusting under the paint. Might even rust worse if you trap any water or other crap under the paint with the rusty metal.
Kn0xville
like ryan said. the only way to stop rust is to get rid of it. theres nothing you can put on it that will stop it from rusting anymore. putting anything on top of it will actually cause it to rust faster because the moisture will be trapped. Sooo.. find a shop that does sandblasting, patch what you have to, POR1 the clean frame, and get the inside of the frame oil spayed. After all that, you should never have a problem as long as you oil spray once a year (right before winter is a good time).
