Heater noise

Ever since the winter I've had a noise that's gotten worse everyday (happens more often) that comes from the motor under the dash on the passenger side. Usually if I have it on setting I it's less likely to occur, but will come on and off when I hit bumps in the road. Almost sounds like something is rubbing against the blades of the fan. I took the motor out awhile ago, and its silent when it's not installed, but as soon as you put it back in I get the noise again. It only occurs when the heat is on, and I have no other ideas as to what it could be. Thanks guys! WAVEY

If it's anything like the WD21's, you may have something in the casing that houses the heater core. On the older pathy's it comes apart very easily, and can be cleaned out. Mine had a terrible noise as well, and it ended up just being leaves, and debris in there.

It sure sounds like you're describing something hitting the fan blades.

Pull that puppy back out and look around in the fan housing/plenum some more. I really think you will find some debris, or maybe just a piece of the housing sitting too close to the fan. Plastic does settle/warp as the internal stresses relieve over time, so maybe the housing has warped just enough to rub against the fan. Use a flashlight and look for edges with scuff marks and trim it back about 1/16 to 1/8"

Don't know if this will help but I have had that same problem when I had a Ranger....somehow a receipt had gotten sucked into the blower motor fan area, and it was making the same noise.....I know...blower not sucker.....but that's what happened.
