Front Windshied replacement

well as most have prob read in my other topic...i busted up the windshield yest...and theres a junkyard here thats freakin awsome i can go get a front window for $28.28 i just have to pull it myself...and i just checked their inventory and they have an 87 and 88 pathy as well as 2 86 hardbodies..

Well, putting the new one in isn't that bad.......it's removing the windsheild from the donor Pathy that could be difficult without breaking the windshield. There's a tool that allows you to cut the seal on the one you're removing which helps alot. Looks like a knife blade with a 90 degree blade that's also got a rope/handle for extra pulling power......seemed to work well for the guy who replaced mine.

get some piano wire.. makes removal a snap.. be careful though.

 

i payed a pro less then $50 to put one it.. they have the right seals/adhesives to do this.. to me it wasn't worth the effort and hassle so i hired them.

yea i was reading the FSM and figured if i can get the windshield out of 1 of those 2 pathys at the yard and let some1 put it in for me...granted if i break 1 then i have another to give a try at b/c they dont care if u break nething u only pay for what u get to the counter...but i was going to get some fishing leader wire and cut the seal then put the wire thru and run it around and have 2 or 3 buddies help me get it out...

piano or guitar wire, which is ribbed, cuts the seal better then smooth wire..

sweet well i appreciate the tips if im around this weekend (might have to go to virginia with the gf) im going to fetch a new windshield and see if i cant get some1 to put it on for me

I tried doing a junkyard removal for my old Cutlass back in college. What a PITA that was, the junkyard guy was helping me and after we broke 2, I said screw it. Have you looked into the cost of buying new glass if you can, or having it done altogether?

yea its like $265 for new glass and install...the used glass is $30 and $100 to install in my driveway
