tmoore4512
Yo, all you guys who are still active in the community and have walked this very road, hear ye, hear ye.... After about 10 years, it is time again to do the water pump and timing belt. Not so much the belt/tensioner because, well it was replaced about a decade back and the mileage does not require it, but the water pump is now leaking, following the episode with that silly bypass hose, if you recall. Truck got a little hotter than I would have liked and I am pretty certain the gasket was cooked and is now leaking. So, since that is the case, the timing cover is full of coolant and the belt has been sitting in it, taking a nice little bath. Ethelyne Glycol is some not so friendly stuff to rubbers, because well, it causes what some in the older world (like me) consider a "fix" for things like ED (or not, but it was funny in my head,) so it causes swelling, softening, embrittlement, cracking, etc. Since the belt is sitting in it, I shall replace it. I digress. Where on earth are you guys getting OEM Nissan parts? I cannot locate a single part of this setup (aside from an OEM water pump gasket. I would like to get an OEM belt, tensioner and pump...but no joy as of this week. Advice?
Slartibartfast
Try NissanPartsDeal, Amayama, and Partsouq. Otherwise you're stuck with with aftermarket. I got OE head gaskets from Amayama, shipped from the UAE, somehow cheaper than NPD had them in (I assume?) the US, so check them against each other. But sometimes Amayama turns out not to have what they think they do. I tried ordering a dipstick tube from them, only to get an email the next day that they didn't actually have it. I think they take the order and then see if they can track stuff down from their suppliers. I haven't ordered from Amayama or Partsouq since the tariffs got weird, not sure how they're dealing with that. My dad tried ordering parts from the UK recently and was told they had no idea what the charge would be by the time the stuff got here, and they just didn't want to deal with it, so they weren't even accepting US orders. I got the OE tstat and water pump ("pump ass wat" in Nissan parts speak) via NPD, NSK idler and Bando belt off Rockauto because I couldn't find OE. Can't speak to the quality of either, haven't even installed them, given the engine they were going on turned out to be a doorstop. Years back I put a Gates belt and pump on my VG30, and they're still holding up 30k later, but I've heard some complaints about Gates since.
tmoore4512
Thanks for the reply dude. Ran into the tarifff stuff too. Several places said they would not ship to the US. Ordered an OEM pump from NPD, it should be delivered tomorrow...we shall see. Had to go with a Gates belt, only one that was in stock anywhere (Rock Auto) so hopefully it will not be a bust. It has been 15+ years since I did timing on this, gunna have to dig up some old literature I guess. Whew.

I used this writeup and the service manual (for torque specs) when I did mine.
adamzan
The aftermarket belts are fine on these, I've used gates, dayco, continental, and mitsuboshi without issue. Bando was the OE manufacturer. In 2020 I put a complete OEM timing/waterpump kit on my Xterra, the water pump is already dribbling started in 2022, I don't drive it much so have ignored it, but that was an OEM part... I think it came from Mexico. I don't think the OE parts are that good anymore unless they're old stock from Japan. I'm sure you've finished the job by now but yeah...
