Changing valve cover gaskets

Hi guys, I was wondering if there was anything else worth replacing when I do this job. I did the spark plugs recently (amazingly simple with the TBI setup) but otherwise I'm not aware of anything that would be good to replace.

 

Also, do I need to use RTV anywhere on the valve covers? Or just clean off the old gasket and install the new? Thanks for your advice!

Clean mating surface and torque. Nothing special.

No need to use rtv. Make sure you replace the bolt grommets also.

Yup got those with the Fel-pro kit. For some reason they almost tripled the cost of just the gaskets though.

Those little guys are expensive, don't know why.

I have never found a need to replace those.

When I replaced mine, they were all flat.

I replaced the few that came out easy. Most were too difficult to remove from the metal cups so I just left them. I'll just replace them if they start to leak.

The ones I bought came with new metal cups.
