Diff_Upper_Lip
Hey guys. I'm new and considering doin up a blokes R50 vg33 pathy. It's been sat for near 3 years unused and not started. I've been speaking to a few of my friends and with some mechanical knowledge we think it could be worth a shot. What id like to know from you guys, is what to expect from this car, and this engine considering its sat still for quite some time. What would you do if you were in my shoes staring at this car? Cuong Nguyen
It doesn't hurt to try and see if it fires up but you may want to drain the old fuel and put in some fresh stuff. Also make sure the battery is well charged or you replace it.
ferrariowner123
What he said. Pump out old fuel, check and probably want to change the oil, check the coolant (eventually, not super crucial to make it start but I cant imagine it's in the best shape after so long). Check major electrical connections for corrosion, cleaning as needed. Past that, you would just be diagnosing as needed in the event it doesn't fire. If it ran when parked, I don't see why it wouldnt fire, (all dependant upon how it was stored). -Kyle Edited March 8, 2016 by ferrariowner123

mickmutante
Check out the tires too... 20 years ago I had an Old WV Bettle... it sat for almost two years... and the tires crystallize... they went old...
Slartibartfast
You might also check for signs of rodents, especially in the air filter box. My '93 had a rat's nest in there that plugged the MAF screen when the engine ran.
Kingman
Before you let it fire up, it'd be a good idea to pull the fuel pump fuse or coil wire and crank it for a while to get some oil pumping around.
