new shocks then lift.

I have a stock 1990 2 door. I think it had what was called the "off road" package because it has the Lego wheels and 31in (currently pretty bald) tires. I was hoping to do a piecemeal 3in suspension lift because I would like to do as much of the work my self as I can when I can. So... first on list (aside from tires) was shocks.

 

I know stock shocks with a 3inch lift is iffy but what about the other way around? Are there some good off roading shocks out there that will work at stock height and with a lift?

 

I have not adjusted my torsion bars yet.. maybe that would help with the front a little (Replacing those was pretty high on the list too.)

 

Also this fella is pretty much for off road so I am not too concerned about how comfortable the road ride is. I just want shocks that work on the rocks and maybe some mud.

Front shocks are the same size regardless of whether it's lifted or not, so you can get whatever you want. I personally have the rancho rs5000 and like them. Firm ride but not too jarring. For the rear I'm not sure if they would bottom out or not but you could always buy them and only install the fronts for now and then install the rears when you get some new springs, or spacers.

Can you do the same with the R50 because I was thinking the same as well a couple days ago.

Thanks for the response adamzan. So I took a look underneath and I guess it makes sense that the size of shocks are the same in the front.... but you probably could have convinced me if you said the opposite ... but one of the reasons I asked was because 4x4 parts differentiates between front shocks with "no lift" and with a "3 in lift"... they both look the same in the pictures. Maybe you just get different hardware?
