Actually fuel pumps are cheap if you go aftermarket. Any time a fuel pump goes in my vehicles i replace it with a walbro 255 litre per hour high volume pump. They are about 80-90$ on ebay all the time

Thats actually quite reasonable. And theoretically there are several other things that could cause the failure. relay, fuse, bad ground, corroded wiring. Many things to check as well as the pump itself. My biggest peeve is replacing something on a whim assuming its the problem when there are many other possibilities lol.

Oh no of course always test for easiest issues first. I always check wiring first (I'm an automation tech and electrician so it's my nature I suppose) as those are the cheapest and easiest (usually) to fix. Meter out the wiring to confirm if there are any opens anywhere. Then test the relay for operation (continuity test with test probes can check all of these).

I was just letting you know that if it is the pump, there are options that won't break the bank.

Try priming the fuel system (turning the key to on, but not starting it, wait till the fuel pump kicks off) a few times. If the fuel pressure is lacking on startup this should build up more and allow it to start.

That being said I would start with things it probably needs anyways. Fuel filters are cheap, tune up items like plugs/wires/cap/rotor. The distributor cap may look new but the little cap that goes over it and the wires hides it from dust and whatnot so it can be deceiving.

Im judging the cap and rotor based on condition of the terminals. Rotor looked close to new. Distributor had minor corrosion but nothing major. If the fuel pump were shot, theoretically the truck wouldnt run more than a few minutes. Its definately running. Is there a secondary circuit for the prime? If that is unservicable than that could be a lot easier to fix. theoretically. Again, dont know the age of the filter. Its a new vehicle to me with no service records.

Alright gents, I've had another couple of hours to tinker with the pathfinder today. I replaced the fuel filter, checked the fuel pump and relay. Everything seems to be working ok. If anything, the trouble seems to be getting slightly worse. Instead of catching, coughing a bit and then running, now it's struggling to catch, coughs a bit and the runs. With my foot on the pedal a little bit, it seems to resolve this problem a but better. Could this be a weak fuel pump? Iacv? There's been several related issues I've read but normally it's a no start or dying issue mine runs well once it's going and will always start, just takes some persuasion.

I pulled a spark plug out. It's burning very clean. The gap was a little but wide but not crazy. My main concern was that it was not the stock suggested plug. Fsm says bkr6ey. I have bkr6egp. I dont know if that's a common swap or if it's the wrong plug but the electrode is significantly narrower than the stock one. Maybe an issue? Any help is, as always, very appreciated.
