fpf
My steering is shot so I just ordered the AC steering stabilizer kit. I plan to replace my center link with the grassroots one. My question to you guys is where do you recommend I get my new idler arm from, preferably one that can be greased? Are there any other parts you would replace? adamzan
You can drill the idler and tap it for a grease fitting. I would inspect the tie rod ends, ball joints, and tension rod bushings.
fpf
Ok well is there a heavy duty idler arm that will be compatible with the AC kit? Im just worried about buying some cheap china made one if I go to the local auto parts store.
fpf
bump. really hoping for an answer on a heavy duty idler arm that works with the AC kit. Thanks guys!
silverton
If you wanted all heavy duty components you should have went with the Calmini steering kit. I've heard good things about the Moog brand stuff.
fpf
i had the calmini kit on order for 2 years. They never filled the order. Worst customer service i have ever seen. Why show that you carry a product if you cant fill the order in years!!!!???? screw calmini. I'll never attempt to order anything from them again. fpf
So i visited a site that carries moog products per your recommendation. If i order the parts at the link below will they be compatible with the AC kit? also, will they be an improvement over stock or will they just replace the stock components? Thanks for the input guys. I am trying to piece together everything on my own and i have no experience working on cars. http://www.moog-suspension-parts.com/proddetail.asp?prod=Moog-PackageDeal165 http://www.moog-suspension-parts.com/proddetail.asp?prod=MOOG-K90075 (is it common to need to replace this?) http://www.moog-suspension-parts.com/proddetail.asp?prod=MOOG-K9500
silverton
The Moog parts will be an improvement over what you have now, which is worn out junk. The pitman arm should not need to be replaced. And as long as the AC stuff is compatible with the factory parts, the Moog parts will fit just the same.
Mauitrailguy
Have you thought about using tubing and heims?
fpf
No. What would that look like?
Mauitrailguy
http://www.nissanpathfinders.net/forum/topic/37819-center-link/ Seems pretty straight forward.
fpf
is there a cheaper ball joint and tie rod package out there that will still be of high quality? if not, I'll just go with the moog parts. Or is there somewhere to get discounted moog parts?
Mauitrailguy
http://www.lowrangeoffroad.com/index.php/builderparts/rod-ends-links/better/3-4-x-3-4-rod-end-heim-joint-rose-joint-left-and-right-hand-thread.html These don't come in packages but they are good quality and cheaper than the standard TRE's. I would suggest getting a set of front wheel/knuckle assemblies from the junk yard and doing all your drilling on those just in case something goes wrong. Plus you will have less down time. The heims will last longer and are maintenance free. Tubing and thread inserts can be bought just about anywhere.
