1995 Nissan Ex Cab Truck

Ok, pardon not having a pathfinder and asking a question for the pickup. Anyhow I have a few questions.

1) I have a 1995 4x4 truck, at hwy speed (70 mph) it runs around 6 K RPM's, I had the trans replaced and the dealer didn't mention this being odd (I still get btwn 19 and 21 mpg, and have oem size tires)

2) I have a brush and grill guard off a 95 pathfinder (square nose) will this fit my truck? and how do you mount the thing?

3) will pathfinder interiors fit the truck (ie seats console door panels etc...) and will the axels fit without computer mods exchanges etc...

Sorry for the huge request

1) ... is that a typo or is it really doing 6k down the freeway? Yeah, that ain't normal! I can only assume it's not going into third. (Auto trans, right?) There's a "power mode" switch on the dash (left of the steering wheel on mine, by the mirror adjusters) that's supposed to flash if the trans computer finds a fault. The service manual (AT section most likely) explains how to interpret the flashes into something that could help you track down the issue.

2) IIRC it mounts to the front of the frame (where the tow hooks go otherwise) and through the bumper to the brackets. The Pathfinder body sits about an inch lower on the frame than the pickup does, so you'd have to modify the lower mounts to make it sit right.

3) As far as I'm aware, the interiors are 90% the same. Obviously from the B pillar back will be different, but the front seats/console/dash/trim are the same as far as I know. The only differences I'm aware of in the running gear are the rear axle (HB is leaf sprung, Pathy is 5-linked and coil sprung, so the suspension mounts on the axle are different) and the transfer case levers are shaped a little differently because of the different body heights. Guys who body lift their Pathfinder sometimes use Hardbody shift levers because they clear the floor better.

Welcome to the forum!

AFAIK, most things from the front doors forward are the same as a Pathy, and there ae several D21 (Hardbody) owners here, we don't have a problem with that. ;)

FYI a 1995 Pathfinder is the last year WD21 (square nose), 1996-2004 are the R50 (round nose?).

I believe Slart is correct about the fitment.

I don't know about the interior, but I believe that Nunya was talking about a hardbody bench seat swap, so maybe.

Welcome to NPORA, BTW. ;)

You have an electronic dash, I suspect your tach is wrong. Try removing the gauge cluster and tightening the screws, and clipping a tach on under the hood and comparing the two as well.

Is yours a manual or automatic transmission? I wonder if the dealership screwed up and gave you a 4cyl tranny and here your v6 is saying come on lets GO!! If it is an automatic like Slartibartfast said above turn your power switch back to economic, and / or switch on your O/D, does your dash have an O/D light on? If so push the button on the gear selector and that should settle it down.

6 grand sounds high for 70, even with the overdrive turned off. Hmmm...if it is auto...yeah, the more I think on it I'm leaning toward Slartibartfast theory on the kickdown / up not working right, that's related to your TPS and vehicle speed sensor...which your speed sensor should be brand new so try adjusting and experiment a little with your tps mounted on the side of the throttle body. It somehow determines at what speed the trans shifts into the next gear. I have had this happen to me too..mine finally just worked itself out and fixed itself somehow.

You know, I just thought of something. It started doing this after the trans swap, right? Maybe when they put the trans in, the dealer didn't get the shift cable adjusted right, so when you slot it in Drive, it's actually engaging second gear. If you watch the tachometer as you accelerate from a dead stop, does it rise and fall like it's shifting gears or just rise with speed?

Dunno, just an idea.

it should shift once, from first to second and then stay there, I don't think it starts out in 2nd and yes I agree, try one shift selection up, neutral ? that might be your Drive.

I drive my 94 Pathfinder V6 auto trans with OD turned on in the ET mode on the power switch, with stock 31" tires everyday at 80-85 MPH and my tach never goes over 4K, something is definitely wrong if you know you are in drive. Does the engine sound like it's revving that high or is that just what the tach says?

Could be a bad tach as Precise said, I don;t think the 4cylinder tranny will bolt up to the V6, and unless someone previously replaced the axle gears you should not be doing 6K at 70 MPH.

Can you (if it's an automatic), put the shifter in 1,2,d and see if it behaves properly ?
