Headlight aiming

So I called one of the local Nissan dealers to see if they had one of those headlight aiming machines, they said they don't, so they don't aim headlights? Or they just do it on a wall???

 

Seems to me a dealer should be able to do this, have to call another dealer.

 

Yes I know I can aim them on a wall and if I want to get technical draw the lines, etc, etc, but I don't want to go thru all that, rather have it done for a few dollars.

 

I must have them aimed half way decent, at least no one driving towards me has flashed their lights at me yet, it just seems when I put the high beams on that both lights are kind of centered in the middle of the road. I may just turn the pass. side out a little more.

 

 

I can say the E-code Hella's with the 100 watt high beams put out A LOT of light !!!

I'd be surprised if they didn't gouge you. My local dealer advertises like 30 bucks to do it. Screw that.

I just want to get them set to where they should be. I'll probably just keep making adjustments until I get flashed by an oncoming vehicle than adjust them back slightly.

Headlight aiming with the hand held gadgets is a pain in the ASS! I would be willing to pay $30 for someone to do mine if they needed it. The old school machines that had a track on the floor were much better but no one has them anymore. Headlight aim is supposed to be checked when inspecting a vehicle but no one does it anymore.

I just use a garage door to make sure they are booth level.

Jeez I wish I could get ANYTHING done on my vehicle for 30 dollars these days...A few places I've talked to charge an hour for aiming and an hour labour here is anywhere from 75-100.

You are starting to sound old, Adam.

 

Your Laboeur rate is low, especially in CDN$. Last time one of our vehicles visited a stealership it was $130/hr (Toyota). That's insane, for a little more I could hire a crappy lawyer to do the work, then sue himself for farking it up!

Needless to say, it's rare for one of our herd to go to a shop, much less a dealership...

It's ridiculously easy to aim your headlights against a wall.

 

put bumper against wall with a level surface ~25 feet. place masking take on wall at the center of the beam. The "hot spot". Back up two car lengths. adjust beam to tape.

 

I use mall parking garages.
