KYB strut mounts and bearings

I would not use them based on anecdotal evidence by other R50 owners. I went with Raybestos strut mount kits and they have been fine so far. Be sure to replace the three strut mount nuts, the upper center mount nuts, and lower strut mount nuts as the FSM states to replace them if removed.

Why does it matter? Raybestos & Sachs options are within a couple bucks of the KYB strut mounts, so just get either of those brands instead and avoid any possible headaches. If you want OEM part numbers for the required fasteners too, provide your VIN and I can look them up for you.

Money of course.

Raybestos are 40$ (for the kit - both sides) more and are also made in Taiwan. Just trying to get some firsthand experience with KYBs.

I understand your feeling on cost, but you are just going to end up paying for it again. Were trying to save you some time and headaches

Dude thanks for trying to help shed some light on this. But... out of the 9 links you posted, 1 guy had KYB mounts that had a problem. Anyway, I went ahead and ordered the KYB ones. I'll let you know how it turns out.

By the way, emailed RockAuto and was told they haven't had any negative feedback on those mounts and that they are one of their most popular mounts for Pathfinders.

Um no, all of those were cases where someone reported a clunking noise, or issues after installing KYB strut bearings.

But you already made your choice, not really sure why you even asked us in the first place, but your money dude.

I'm sure if I tried ordering a different mount, the salesman might very well tell me the same thing he told you about those mounts.

RockAuto is great, but they are in a business to sale things. Of course they are going to say that.

Ok, guys, lets keep it polite please.

00PathfinderSE, please do keep us informed. I have been here a long time and have reviewed many threads on the KYB product. Enough to where I decided to avoid them myself. If I (we) are wrong, I'd love to know it. I hope you do prove the common perception false; more options and one less thing to consider. ;)

Installed KYB front mounts, bearings, and struts today. Also replaced the end links with Beck/Arnley. I said I would post my results so here it is. The bearings looked and felt identical to the Nissan OEM bearings I replaced other than the color of the plastic which was black on the KYBs. The mounts themselves were also identical to the OEMs in feel and design except for one feature. The Nissans had a little extra metal on the bottom of the mount where the strut shaft went through the mount. The KYBs came with a metal spacer to slip on the shaft to accomplish the same thing (all the after market mounts I looked at had the same design). I didn't notice the difference right away, would be bad to forget the spacer. The rubber looked good and seemed stiffer than the old ones which made sense. Everything went together really easy. The worst part was getting the old end links off that I had to cut. All in all really happy with the mounts and struts as of day one. Feels like a solid truck again, and no clunking!

I'm curious how it's been since you've done the swap. I came across an interesting finding where the Strut Bearings I took out AND the one that came in the Raybestos kit where 100% plastic. However when I looked the parts at NAPA the bottom half was metal and the top half was plastic.

Are yours lasting ok? No Clunks?

What are the OEMs like Metal/Plastic or Plastic/ Plastic?
