i unplug IAC (the thing on the post with a blue plug/...?) and it does nothing while the engine is running. plug it back in nothing changes... still idles a bit above the 500rpm mark in drive.

Any one I've unplugged made the engine idle worse.

Regaurdless of what additive he used just dumping the crap in the tank does very little unless you use it every tankful.

With garbage $2 STP "injector cleaner" or what-have-you, yeah you're probably right that it ain't gonna do jack since all they contain is crap like kerosense and other solvents. PEA (poly-ether amine) based cleaners such as Chevron Techron, Redline SI-1, or Gumout Regane clean effectively without leaving behind their own deposits and are recommended by several OEMs (Chevron and BMW co-developed Techron which was the first product to contain PEA) for effective fuel system cleaning.

They seem to lope a little more with it unplugged.

Yes, I see your point here. But every dealership/ auto repair shop that I have ever been too (hell even my local wal-mart) cleans the injectors by taping the fuel rails. They dont just dump a bottle of Gumout in the tank and shove ya out the door.
