obviously a 2 door pathy with the rear cargo area cut out. It would be nice to see if they closed up the rear or if they left it open.

There is a 90's style 4-Runner in my local pick n pull that has the same done. Whoever did it knew how to fab and its a shame it was in the junkyard.

You sure you aren't thinking of the removable roof 84-88 4Runners?

which wouldn't technically be a "90s" one, 89 was the last year for the removable back 4runners (us spec at least) which was obviously a boxy 80s style. 1990 was the changeover year to a "modern" rounded design which didn't have the removable top section (though still had a 2 door option for a year or so)

Nissan did make one... its called the navara. And it comes with a turbo diesel
