lint
So I'll soon be removing & replacing my muffler to repair a rust spot under the rear seat. I'm wondering if the new black fibre gasket needs some sort of wet sealer (RTV?) or does it just go on and seals as a result of the bolts compressing it? Also, does anyone know the bolt size & pitch of the bolts from muffler to Cat? I need the bolts onhand just in case something breaks as I live out-of-town. Thanks! d edit: '94 WD21 Edited September 3, 2011 by lint
sewebster
You aren't required to use a sealer. Probably wouldn't hurt too much if you did, but I never had. I have no idea what the oem spec bolts are, but I've just been using a bag of M10x1.5 for my exhaust work and it seems fine.
adamzan
Putting a small coat of copper rtv on the gasket couldn't hurt. Also you could take some sandpaper and clean up the flange surface for better adhesion.
