Hi all, am very glad to be here. At least I am with friends who are familiar with the Pathfinder. I bought mine (commonly known here as Nissan Terrano - WD21) 2 years ago. Specs:- Engine: Z24 carb, trans: manual, 5-speed. It was indeed a happy driving for the past 2 years but recently, there was a sudden hike of petrol prices, the previously cheap RON 95 soared to RM 1.95 a litre (USD 0.65), it is no longer economical to drive the truck.

I am planning to replace the engine with the popular (at least here) Nissan TD27 Turbo or the Nissan QD32 Turbo. At least diesel price are still low. I have gone "window shopping" and the TD27 Turbo JDM (Used) is currently priced at RM4,500 (USD 1,472.00) and the QD32 Turbo (used) is at RM6,500 (USD 2126.00).

I will post pictures of my progress.:)Photo0181.jpgmalaing_01.jpg

:welcome:

I have a Diesel but have to say I wish we had your fuel prices.

I didn't know that your fuel price is higher in Europe. :| I am looking forward for my diesel Terrano wd21! :)

WELCOME TO THE SITE !! Keep in mind when figuring the prices of gas over Diesel and doing an engine conversion it would probably be a while before you offset the price of the conversion and start to save money by using diesel.

For you to have an idea Diesel litre is currently at 1.37 euros = 1.95 US dollars... :headwall::headwall::headwall:

I haven't made the conversion but it might be just possible to do it by early July, waiting for the correct amount of money to come in.. :)

both pics the same day or do you just really like that shirt? kidding of course

welcome WAVEY

so if my calculations are correct, your .65 (us) is per litre? which would = out to about 2.46 per gallon... still more than $1 per gallon less than here, I'd take that happily  (and deisel costs MORE per gallon right now in my local at least)

If you convert fuel prices to USD, surely it will be cheaper but our wages here are also low. I love the z24 but mods here are difficult to come by. If I could only improve its performance and fuel economy then probably I will stick to it. :)

I went back to the shop today and took these pictures...

Welcome Bud!! I'd guess that the 2.7liter TD probably has more power than the z24 and 150% better fuel economy so swapping is probably a good idea if you keep the vehicle for a while. Funny, diesel costs more than gasoline here...

Welcome mate, if you can afford the difference between the 2 diesels, I'd go with the QD32, so much more power than the TD. I'd kill for your diesel prices, currently here in Oz we are paying USD$1.48, and I easily burn 80L a week. Hope you enjoy your stay here at NPORA.

Diesel costs more over there?! :wtf: never though it would be possible...

Gasoline here is 30% more than Diesel.

Diesel here costs on average 10 cents per litre more than regular gas, hard to understand why.

Yeah, I understand it requires less refinement and they have higher yield per barrel. It was cheaper here until about 15 years ago when consumer rather than commercial buyers took over. My guess is the change is purely for profit; to keep everyone from switching to cheaper/more efficient diesel and cutting profit margins.

Local, for what it is worth, the cheapest to be found is $4.09/USG. 3.785L/1USG= $4.09/3.785L=$1.06L. $3.67/ USG for 87 octane(low grade gas)=$.97L

Hi Precise1,

The TD27 Turbo is priced similar to the non-turbo QD32 at MYR4,500 (USD 1475). From infos that I gathered, installing the td27 turbo is more expensive because you need to replace your existing exhaust piping to a larger size (Well, I am not sure of this myself). I have been thinking, if the cost of an engine transplant is too high, it might just be worthed to sell the truck and buy a diesel - Nissan Safari/Patrol 4.2 ==> http://www.mudah.my/Nissan+Safari+4+2-9838107.htm

Hi DavefromOZ,

The TD27 Turbo is priced the same as the non-turbo QD32 at MYR 4,500 (AUD1400). I heard that QD32 are stronger engines, widely used for 4X4 enthusiasts. The only problem is the engine transplant - the cost. I am still contemplating whether to do a transplant or sell the truck and get a Nissan diesel. ==> http://www.mudah.my/Nissan+Safari+4+2-9838107.htm

  • 2 weeks later...

Hi guys,

I was out of luck, am RM5000 short to buy the Safari, and RM1000 short of either engines..so I am back to square one.

I have been thinking (silently and aloud) the pathy has been with me for 2 years and never gave up on me, at least the engine. So I did

some researching on the net and I come out with two solutions:

1. Service the motor with original Nissan parts - new oil, new oil & air filters.

2. Service the carb - a simple DIY servicing, spraying the carb with a carb cleaner.

carb_cleaner.jpg

RESULT:

1. Improved acceleration.

2. Improved fuel economy - was RM50 weekly (daily commute to work), now down to RM15.00. a 50% improvement... :)

..and I am sooo happy... :) :-))

I am thinking of improving the performance of the Z24 motor without compromising its fuel economy...perhaps a few more HP...and ideas?

Thanks...
