i was at pick-n-pull today and i found a 89 harbody 4x4 with manual locking hubs so i grabbed them tossed em in my tool bag bought some other stuff.

i knew there was a year spline count thing but i didn't remember till i got home and checked well the hubs are 27 and i need 28... soo what can i do can i take parts from my auto hubs and swap them into the ones i got. i didnt pay for these hubs so im not super worried but i dont want them to go to waste either. what should i do??

you can't take anything from your auto hubs to make the older manual hubs work, you said it already the splines are different, since you didn't pay for them I would just try to sell them to someone with an older truck and use the money toward the right set of manual hubs.

this was taken from the "how to install manual hub thread"

"One thing I'd add to this is that the 87-89 Pathys have 27 spline front axles while the 90-95 Pathys have 28 spline axles, so they don't interchange. "

so they should work

About the only way to make them work "easily" would be to custom make some CVs, swapping pre 90 outers onto your's. Another option would be to yank the entire CVs and the mounting flanges on the diff of a pre 90 (they changed from 3 sets of 2 bolts to 5 single bolts) and swap them in.

You "might" be able to get the inner spline piece for a 28 spline at the dealer, not sure if you can order just that part, but they did make the manuals for 28 splines too.

Okay, where is this manual hub thread...I have been unable to find it...

I too have a bead on some HB hubs, and I have no issue replacing axles as mine are shot anyway...

So my pathfinder has 28 spline axles...

Will a 94 HB have 27 or 28 splines?

Gah this is frustrating.
