Is My Speedometer Correct? Need Help

Recommended Posts

I was thinking my speedometer was a little fast as the truck doesn't seem like it is going as fast as what the speedometer is saying. I figured it was correct as the truck still has the stock sized tires, but than I realized my buddy had the tranny replaced, so now I have no idea what this tranny came out of and if the speedometer gear is correct for my axle gear ratio. Wanted to know if someone with 31's, 4:63 gears and an auto tranny could tell me what there speed is at 2000 RPM, mine is reading 60 with the OD on and in top gear. Also is there a way to tell by looking at the speedometer gear which one it is? Thanks

Even easier way is to time yourself between mile markers with a stopwatch. 60 mph/kph = 60 seconds per mile/kilometer. Each second over up to 5 counts as a mile/k slow. Under 60 seconds, you are speeding.

Also i believe the speedo gears are color coded.
