I called to see how much it would be to replace the motor mounts in my Pathfinder (THANK YOU SAND LAKE) and the first place I called said that labor would be $85 and the parts would be...

DRUM ROLL PLEASE...

$280 for both. So I said WHAT??? and said some other words that cant be posted.

That seems a little high to me. Is that right? What about doin this on my own. Where would I get less expensive parts and how hard is it? Keep in mind I have Ball Park Franks for fingers.

Hey RamiTP. (I like that abbreviation !) This is the cheapest place I've found for OEM stuff so far. I punched in '89 pathy with 3.0V6 (dont know exactly what you have but guessing) and it came up $100 each.

http://www.maximumautoparts.com/NI_cat.html

This place lists that same part (with same manufacturer) for $86

http://www.nissanmart.com/

And this place lists (no description) for $78 and is the only place that mentions 'front and rear'.

If they are saying $85 labor thats 1-1.5 hours for both sides; how hard can that be Mr Sausage Finger Man ? :P I'd guess the right tools are more important than the size of your... digits. Looks like you could get this done in an afternoon for $150-$200. Seems a he!! of a lot better than $365+tax... Let me know what you do/how it turns out; I think mine could use replacing some time soon here. I wear XL gloves myself (which looks kinda funny on a skinny white boy) but the ladys like me....

Does your shifter move slighty, or is it something worse ?

Mr Sausage Finger Man

LOL I almost spit pizza all over my new moiter.

the way I figured it out was....

Brian (pres of N.W.O.R.C.) was driving my pathy when we were at sand lake. He asked me what was hitting the floor boards (directly under where ur feet would be while driving) I said I didnt know I have wondered the same thing since I had gotten my pathy towards the end of April 04. Brian was tellin me different things that it COULD be and then all of the sudden he was like "ITS UR MOTOR MOUNTS!!!" I asked how he knew and he said "When ever u give it gas your (insert name of the shifter thing that makes you shift in to 4 wheel drive here) shifts to the right. SEE?" I said ya i could see. Then he stopped the car and jumped out opend the hood and said "WATCH!" so he gave it some gas while his other foot was on the brake of corse and the engine almost fliped out of the engine bay.

So basiclly I figured NOTHING out. It was all Brian and his vehicle knowledge telling me what was goin on.

If I do end up doin it my self I will let u guys know how it was and maybe do a little write up or somethin. That would be exciting.

Hey Rami, get those motor mounts fixed yet ? I was working on the truck today, and the MM's are easy ! Put the front end on jackstands (on the frame), remove the front wheels and the little rubber splash gaurds. Presto, there they are, you are looking at the little buggers. Remove the nuts (4 each), put the jack unter the oil pan, lift the motor a little for clearance. Out with the old, in with the new...

I took some pictures to shame you into changing them yourself and saving your $ for cool components. Let me know if you want to see them.

Bernard you are a stallion! I read about the MM in my Haynes book and it seems so easy. I was gonna try it REAL soon. Ill check it out and let u know if I need help (which will prolly happen)

SPEAKING OF STALLIONS...

Id like to thank Aaron and Brian for helping me with my Pathfinder. They replaced my rear shocks and springs for me while I watched in pure awe! They also cranked the T-bars for me so that I would be able to turn with out having my tires rub. Now the only time the tires rub are when I turn REAL sharp and the front is compressed. THANKS GUYS!!!!!

YAY FOR STALLIONS!!!

  • 2 weeks later...

I got the drivers side motor mount done but have not done the pass side. It was a task but not due to the fact that I have XL catcher mits but I couldnt get the bolts alligned. THAT was making me VERY mad. I hope the passenger side is WAY easier.

Hey there Rami. While I didn't see any broken bolt pictures, what was the problem with aligning the bolts ? Personally I would have gone for broke and done both at the same time... Could that have something to do with it ? The motor being twisted to one side (jacked up and anchored on the other side) that made the bolts not align easily ? Just kinda curious ya big pimp...

Well Ill show you what my motor mount looked like...

New one...

Old one (notice the stud)...

Picture%20049.jpg

Side by side next to my dirty fan...

Picture%20051.jpg

Its been broken since I bought my pathy back in April im pretty sure. Something used to hit the bottom of my feet when ever I gave it a good amount of gas. Turns out it was the exshaust pipe (connected to engine GO FIGURE) was hitting the floor and thats why I kept gettin exshaust leaks.

You were right Bernard! The motor mounts were pretty easy to get to ESPECIALLY when I took of the tire.

Picture%20033.jpg

Since I spent so much time trying to figure out how to replace the darn thing I pretty much bolted it up and un-bolted it every which way. I found that it was easier to take out the bolts that connect to the engine first (black arrows)...

Picture%20037.jpg

than take the weight of the engine off of them with the ol' jack. With enough pumps you shuold be able to take out the last two bolts out (yellow arrows) and ease the whole mount and the little bracket out toward the front of your pathy.

Picture%20040.jpg

The blue arrow is where the stud bolts in to the bracket. You can either bolt it to the bracket while you have the whole thing in you hands OR you can leave it a little loose so that you can have some play while your trying to put the upper bolts back on. Then you will need an open ended wrench and some pretty amazing arm possisions

Maybe ill do an actual write up later with better photos and some more in depth goodies.

Every time I clean up my Pathfinder I end up just gettin it muddy again.

Tomarrow (10/20/04) were goin shooting AKA ill get REAL muddy.

Saturday Im going to Browns Camp with good ol' 88' and its just gonna get even more muddy. So Im just gonna wait for a few and then im gonna CLEAN CLEAN CLEAN.

The worst thing EVER is workin under your rig when there is sand everywhere. I was disconnecting the exsaust and I got so much sand in my eyes I was getting PISSED! After you go play in the sand clean everything!
