beavis0076
If anyone can answer this question I would appreciate it! The MB forum hasn't come up with an answer in months... (they are too snobby to have worked on their cars to know) I have an 06 C 230 Sport with a V6. On cold startup it sounds really loud and tough, after a min it quiets way down. It is quiet around town as well, but when u step on the gas and it gets past 4000 rpm it gets real loud agian. I am wondering if there is some sort of exhaust flap that is electronicly controlled? If there is I want to disable it! ( I like the loud sound!) I have looked myself but see nothing. Could the varible valve timing give this effect? On the bmw X3 I see what looks like a flap on one of the 2 exhaust outlets with what appears to be a servo hooked up to it. I have been meaning to check out one up close... but havn't as of yet. I am thinking i have something like this on mine. Here she is... sorry, had to show her off. Edited June 27, 2009 by beavis0076
01silvapathy
I dont know if this is your issue or not, but on my dads 06 G35 Sedan, the exhaust midpipe is different from the coupe midpipe. Its very obvious, if you ever hear a G35 Coupe exhaust vs Sedan Exhaust. So simple fix, just went to the junk yard, bought a used one, take off the stock midpipe, and install the coupe midpipe. When looking inside the pipe, it was alot less of a disturbed path, almost straight through, as apposed to the stock sedan midpipe that had more baffleing to it. I doubt that you can change this in your mercedes, but you could get a aftermarket exhaust or straight pipe it Not my videos but here is the sound diff Stock name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src=" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>" wmode="transparent" style="width:400px; height:326px;" id="VideoPlayback" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" flashvars=""> With Coupe Midpipe name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src=" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>" wmode="transparent" style="width:400px; height:326px;" id="VideoPlayback" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" flashvars="">
beavis0076
No, it sounds good on cold startup and then changes. I found a vid of an X3 that def has an exhaust flap. You can see the flap close right after startup. I am thinking I have something like this in my exhaust.. but cant find it... and here is a link off of youtube of what mine sounds like on cold startup, (someone else's car) you can hear its very free flowing.. then something changes and it quiets way down. althogh the recording here stops before that happens. Put the mercedes on jackstand and take a look for yourself !!
nismothunder
I'll just say that your choke is probly just opening up when you start it since you said it quits after a little bit,and when you step on it the injecter open up more like when the choke in on. I can see it being the choke with the cold startup.. but not at the high rev. Oh well, I guess I will just have to look some more.

Magnesium 2-stage resonance intake manifold increased intake runner length at lower rpm for improved response. Electropneumatic turbulence flaps at start of intake path help increase intake airflow speed at midrange rpm for greater air-fuel mixture swirling and stronger, more complete combustion" Dunno. GoPathyGo
Hmmm .. you may be on to something there.... where did u get that info from? MBUSA.com. Go to the CPO section and the "Model Overview" subsection. They have specs for every model going back several years. Give 'em a call. They're helpful folk and, as the radio ads here constantly remind me, there is no waiting in line for the all-new, spectacular, extraordinary, remarkable, groundbreaking new Mercedes-Benz models. Basically, they've got time on their hands...

Thank you. Unfortunately, I think I'm the exception when it comes to BMW owners. Most are arrogant schmucks whose self-esteem is totally tied up in their cars. I don't even bother following the BMW boards since pretty much every thread turns into "Mine is faster/smarter/bigger/more expensive NYA NYA NYA!" I visit 'em only via links from other sites to specific pieces of info. I know that's a sweeping generalization, but I just don't have the time to find the normal ones out there. So flame away at the BMW owners, basically. "Electropneumatic" is a German auto manufacturer classification. Translated into english it means "Ridiculously over-complicated, highly fragile and probably completely unnecessary equipment destined to fail at great cost to the owner and designed solely to prove German engineering is superior and too sophisticated for your feeble mind. Handle at your own risk and watch us laugh as we void your warranty and empty your childrens and grandchildrens college funds to pay for the repairs, stupid Anglo-Saxon."
