Brake Dust Shields

My front disc brake dust shields are rusted almost off. I have had to peel them back from the rotor a couple of times to keep them from scraping. Does anyone run their's without the dust covers? I am considering just taking the covers off and leaving them off.

Thanks

when I installed my rear discs I took a chisel and poped of the dozen or to spot-welds that held the dust shield on. Is it that simple for the fronts? I guess prolly not unless I do it when I have the rotor off... I'd rather have the whole sheild of than to cut it and still have pieces there. maybe I can drill the spot-welds out.
