Stuck fuel lines

I'm trying to replace the fuel filter and I can't get the lines off. The best I can figure are some vice grips to twist the lines off but it seems like it'll rip the hoses, and I don't want that.

i just use a pair of channel locks and give them a couple of twists...if they dont break free then i start making a little slit and cut it until i can break the lines free...if there isnt enough line to do this go pick up some fuel line and just replace them...

you can also try to work a small flat tip up the hose and around to break it loose...hope that helps

its getting warm out make sure you open the gas cap to release the pressure...

^Pretty much.

Be careful with pliers, etc as it can damage the hose but not be apparent. Save that for the last resort and even then put a rag in the jaws first.

Elbow grease, prying and slitting. You'll probably want to cut off the last 1/2" or so anyway.

x2 your line will just keep drippin if the tank warms up and not allowed 2 vent.

a while back I used a tiny scribe to peel back some of the hoes and then work a little bit of oil under the lip of the hose.

A little vasaline on the barbs of the new filter will reduce future hose cracking and also make then next change easier.

1. did you depressurized the system by pulling the fuel pump fuse and then letting the truck ran out of gas?

2. did you pull out the little PLASTIC tabs to release the hoses?

those plastic catches are hard to tell so just feel for them.. slight pressure in the right directions should do the trick to release the hoses. after that the hoses should pop right off.. easy as butter.

I vent by popping open the gas cap..it'll leak a little fuel but not much at all...unless you let the line drop and then it will siphon gas out of the tank...i usually stick a bolt in the line and clamp it down if they're going to be disconnected for any amount of time...
