5 speed with the TSB not performed

so my car has about 220000 miles and the transmission is noisy in all gears but 4th, i was wondering if any one else has tried to fix this or is it cheaper to replace the whole thing? i have a friend that works at a tranny shop and i can get a deal on parts/labor.

Mine has been like that for awhile... i just drive it... I am saving to replace it..... but not saving fast. How long has yours been like that?

Once mine started it went fast, I replaced it with a used tranny before it left me sitting someplace.

 

Another member here (5523Pathfinder) had his tranny head south the same time mine did. He chose to do the same thing, replace it before it was dead

You could try an oil additive, can't do any harm.

Try changing the tranny fluid with quality gear oil and perhaps adding some Lucas oil stabilizer and/or other additive (check the old oil for metal shavings, it may shed some light). It may slow down or arrest the bearing wear long enough to find a cheap replacement tranny (look for local crashed pathys and here in the classifieds) or do no good at all.

 

If you pull the tranny yourself and have your friend take a look in it, that should be a relatively cheap solution also.
