robert
So I have purchased a new tailgate since mine was ruined in a rear end accident. I just cant open the old one. I need to know how to open the door to unbolt it, and put new one on. Can anyone help me out.
Precise1
The handle doesn't disengage the catch? It does but the damaged liftgate still won't open? Pull the inside pannel and make sure the linkage is working and try actuating it from there... B
robert
When the kid hit my tailgate when we were in the mud, it hit right at the handle. I know the linkage isn't attached, or anything. Well there is no linkage in there since the accident. So any suggestions?
GrimGreg
What he said, climb in and remove the plastic panel off the inside of the door and pop the latch by hand.

morpheus
If the hatch is so mangled that it won't release even after you take the inside panel off and try to flip the latch, you may need to force it open. Since you sound like you're replacing the complete tailgate, you could cut a hole in the old door and hammer the crap out of the old lock till it breaks and releases. You may find the striker out of position too if it was hit hard enough.
