Yotamonk Posted January 12, 2009 Share Posted January 12, 2009 Hello, I've searched through the forums and couldn't really find anything pertaining to me. I just installed a new Alpine deck and speakers bypassing the amps in my 89. Everything works great for the first few minutes but then the 10a radio fuse blows. I've checked all the connections behind the deck and everything seems to be normal. Has anyone had this problem with aftermarket decks, or is there something I'm doing wrong. Right now I don't have the antenna plugged in because the factory connector won't fit the one for the deck but I don't believe this would cause the problem. I swear I read something about aftermarket decks and fuses blowing but I couldn't find it. Anything helps. Thanks, Tom Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
nige Posted January 12, 2009 Share Posted January 12, 2009 (edited) are you flicking any switches, etc when the fuse pops or does it seem to 'do it on it's own'? also, have you run dedicated power lead with your inline fuse to the battery? or have you scooched the power off some other circuit for the radio? also, what model radio do you have? mine is a 7894 and it calls for a 20a fuse, but some other models call for 15, 10 and even 5a Edited January 12, 2009 by nige Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Yotamonk Posted January 13, 2009 Author Share Posted January 13, 2009 Thanks guys, When I wired up the new connector for the player I just use the existing wiring, someone had a aftermarket deck in the before I bought it, I mistakingly assumed all the wiring was decent but it was taking power from the clock fuse, thanks nige pointing that out. I have had no trouble using the stock wiring in either of my Pathfinders. I used the connector adapters that they sell for $5-$10 and pre connected everything with soldered connections and heat shrink. Complete plug and play.
