Hi fellas,

i have searched for an aswer with no luck,

my '89 pathy, xev6 with auto tranny, won't shift when it supposed to shift, what i try to say is that the transmission y shifting at high engine rev's, this happen when i was going on the freeway normally at 55mph, and i realized that suddenly the engine revs are high and the pathy is going not too fast ( 60mph), it's like if you are on a 5 speed manual transmission and you are on the freeway at cruise speed but only at the 4th gear....i took it to a auto transmission shop and the guy tell me that the transmission is fry and have to spend lot of $$$$$$ ( which i don't have) but i ask myself, how it's possible the tranny it's fry if it is doing all the shifts? ( reverse ok, 1st ok, 2nd ok, 3rd ok) the only problem i have is that the transmission is doing the shifts at higher revs than normal.....it's there any site where i cen get the transmission manual?.......or a wiring diagram? (maybe it's electrical problem, maybe sensors?)....i have looked at the tranny and it looks like there is a connector with a wire cut off but i can't tell if it really is normal or not... i think not but i don't know where this wire have to go....

hope you can help me...

Best regards

Mf1a

it may be going into overdrive or auto power by itself becuse of many reasons just my 2 cents.

Thats what I was thinking.....O/D button bumped? I've had my trans go into "Safe mode" before (Only 2nd and 3rd work)

At least I think it's safe mode

Water in the trans plugs?

Good luck

my friends 94 se auto used to run really high rpms on the freeway, like it wasnt shifting. then one day it just wouldn't go, anywhere. the engine would start and I know reverse and N worked for him but he had to get towed cause it something was wrong going foward.

He said that the mechanic said "a wire holder rotted out and let the wires get burned on the exhaust" It cost him $400 to have new tranny wireing slpiced in. And thats all I know about the problem he had.

Post or PM me an email address that can download 7 mgb and I'll send you the Automatic Transmission section of the Factory Service Manual. There is about 40 pages of trouble shooting info alone...

Or you can get it here yourself. I'm pretty sure all the trannies are the same (I'm new to the auto tranny world, forgive me)
