O2 Sensor question

If there was any doubt before, the search feature here officially sucks...

Anyhow; Does anyone know the thread pitch on the O2 sensor?

I just removed mine with 1/2 can of PB, a pipe wrench and a big-ss cheater bar. It was rust-welded to the bung.

Now the threads are shot... Or maybe they shot before.. I dunno.

I'm gonna have to tap them in order to re-use this pipe. I'll probably go with a brass adapter to avoid this issue next time.

BTW, I never realized what a chore gutting that cat was going to be. Is there a better way than a hammer and chisel?

It's done now, but, man what a pain! 31.gif

Crazy, you could throw a pitch gauge on the new O2 sensor and determine the size bung you will need to replace the orignial one with.

I had a gauge that came w/ my tap set, but it's disappeared along w/ my good vice grips and a few others...

I suspect foul play.

I was hoping someone knew off hand.

Slick, I'm think that I could do that myself, but if I'm going to have to get into fabricating, I might as well build a whole new intermediate. The stock system is junk at this point. I'm just looking for fast gratification...

Oh well, maybe I'll just buy one.

the thread is an 18mm x1.5 thread pitch.

Thank you!

Oh, and I realize now that I wasn't very clear before.

I haven't bought a new O2 yet and the bung is still attached to the pipe. It's just lacking threads.

The plan is ream-out the existing bung (on the stock pipe), tap to a larger size, then insert a brass adapter to fit aformentioned sensor.

Or replace the interm... Whichever is cheaper.

I'm getting sick of rusty exhaust bolts and weak manifold studs. My truck's falling apart!

Why isn't there a stainless steel fastener option from the factory?!!

I think a 18mm spark-plug non-fouler woud work. just drill it out and weld it on the pipe where you reamed the old one out, the threads should be the same.

Available at your local automotive store. Spark Plug Non Fouler PN 42009 made my "HELP!" auto repair parts
