Transfer case

I am thinking of replacing the oil in the transfer case on my 95 Terrano.

Mine is an Auto.

How does one remove the filler bung with that cross member in front of it?

Is it just a case of using an extension shaft on a socket drive?

Has anyone done a oil change on these? Was there any issues to be aware of?

1/2" drive extension works fine. Pull the fill plug first to make sure it'll come out, then pull the drain plug. Refill with whatever came out...some have ATF, some have gear oil, it's really up to you what you want to put back in, both types will work OK. I suggest synthetic to reduce drivetrain friction. :)

Thanks 88, just as I suspected.

Is there any reason why the filler bung should be weeping?

I should have added that this bung has not been touched in 3 years and is now just showing signs of a small amount of seepage around it.

I was just curious as why all of a sudden it should start doing this, that's all.
