Rear Defroster only has 1 bar working!

So my rear defroster is pretty useless. Only the very top bar works while the rest of the window stays foggy. I checked the lines (visually) and I didn't see and breaks or gaps in them. That is why I haven't bought one of those paint-on kits (do they even work). The fact that one bar works means the signal is getting to the window, so what's the deal?

 

What could be wrong? Is this a normal Pathy problem? How can I fix this?

You have to find where the break in the grid is and fix it for it to work again. As long as one works you know it's getting power, the grid on the glass simply has a broken circuit somewhere.

Is the paint-on stuff (for rear-defrost repair) the only thing that works?

No idea, I've never had to use it.

 

If you have aftermarket window tint it may be covering the grid...just FYI.

If it is aftermarket tint, double check that they didn't razor cut down the grid and slice every bar but the one.

I soldered a couple breaks once in my old Escort, that was the repair method that was explained to me then. kinda of a PITA but it worked... if I had used flux it probably would have been easier. You do have to be care full though, don't get the glass to hot and probably not a god idea to do it in real cold temperatures either.

 

Brush on stuff sound much easier lol
