AlMac
Hey guys, First off, many thanks to all of you who have offered your much appreciated knowledge on NPORA! More thanks are due to 88 for saving me from a FRAM Oil Filter disaster. the link on Oil filter study was very good! http://minimopar.knizefamily.net/oilfilterstudy.html So my question is, after browsing the forums: Is there a fuel filter study online as well? I googled fuel filter study, and found nothing. Reason why i asked, it that i picked up a fuel filter recently, and as i was getting ready to change it, i noticed it was a FRAM! I also noiticed that the current fuel filter on my pathy IS a FRAM! Looks like i've been Frammed again! Any thoughts? Suggestions? RANTS? " SAY NO TO FRAM! RedPath88
Although I have used Fram oil filters on most of my vehicles and had no trouble I do tend to use alternatives currently (on both the Yota and Pathy), but when it comes to fuel filters I don't think I can say that I have ever used anything but Fram fuel filters I have never had a problem with them nor have I ever known anyone to voice a problem with them. 88pathoffroad
I've never had any fuel filter probs either, but I haven't really been keeping tabs on what brand I've been using. I really don't think Fram filters are all that bad(99% of the parts stores around here carry nothing BUT Fram filters, ugh) but after reading the oil filter comparison article, it couldn't hurt to go with a better filter for safety's sake, you know? On another note, I've test-fitted a PH3600 filter on the Pathy and it works fine...the 3600 is slightly larger(longer) than the stock size filter so you get a slight increase in oil capacity and filtering media surface area, which is a good thing. I do have a 3" body lift for easier access, but several other people have tried the larger filter with success. Just an idea!
jimmycapp
I just replaced mine with a purolator. Haven't heard anything bad with them. Just can't trust a fram James
GhostPath
Word to the wise - when I was a lot younger and a lot dumber, I used Fram oil filters. They collapsed in use, and Fram bought me two Jaguar V12 engines.
jimmycapp
Just a quick thing about the oil filters. I only use Nissan filters (and IIRC Wix/napa also have this) because of the check valve (oneway valve) inside the filter. It keeps oil pressure in the system while the engine is shut off. My 02 maxima had timing chain noise on startup after sitting over night. The check vavle should keep pressure on the tensioners, so you don't get any noise.
