Doug_17Fire
Well I have not posted in a long while but thought I would share my pathy nightmare... 2 weeks ago my truck died ... Thought that the Timeing belt just broke ...I thought wrong ... The person before me had a new belt put on but did not tighten the lower pully that conects to the crank.. This in turn slowly rocked the keyway .. Gee no wonder my Distrib was maxed out with no more adjustment .... 2 Bent Valves, severly worn keyway which my guy can fix thank god.. And he found one spark plug cross threaded which he can fix too.. Well 2k later and my truck will be back running .. all new front seals, water pump, tensioner, thermostat, new belts, and while I was at it new exaust studs .and nock sensor... Oh yeah its an Interferon Engine ......I know nothing of these engines. When I went to see it he had it done to the block.. did not relize it was all head..... The truck was worth the money to get it back up .....

Precise1
Same, Bud Sorry you had to deal with that. Red (redfinder88?) had to deal with a spun keyway that took out his top end also. It look him about a year to fix it... O: I dislike motors that rely on ruber and keys to keep from colliding, but these last well if you keep on top of them and have good luck. You didn't. You should be well set for a while though, if that hepls the pain. *beer* B
jj big shoe
Oh yeah its an Interferon Engine You meant interference, not Interferon. What is meant by "interference engine" is that the pistons and the valves share the same space when running. The valve heads open into the cylinder when the piston is in the downward stroke and out of the way. Once the key on your crank failed, the cams were no longer timed with the crank and the valves slammed into the top of the pistons.

O:B Ok with that out of the way Yes this happened to me and no it's really not cool Doug, I have to ask... how much of that 2K was spent on the actual engine repair. And I mean tearing it down, doing the repairs and putting the engine back together. But NOT including the removal of reinstallation of the complete engine into the truck? The reason I ask is because if the tear down, head inspections, head and crank repairs along with anything else that was done to the engine added up to more than $500-$700 then you might have been better off getting a crate engine from an importer or a used one from a wrecking yard. Doug_17Fire
Ok an Update .... The cost was $1100 in parts $900 in labor .... This included Comlete strip down and rebuild after a compresion test. New knock sensor which was $170.00 Valves laped with 2 intake replaced New oil seals on the front New water pump Fixed header stud bolts .. Basicly replaced all of them. New Belts New thermostat and hose New Vac laines and Radiator Hose's New timeing belt tesioner and Timing Belt itself Of coarse all new Gaskets Full tune up ... New Plugs, Wires, Distrib Cap and rotor and all Fluids I had my guy check the engine vs a crate or rebuilt and the block and heads were in great shape for the millage.. Would have cost more to crate a motor. That would have been around $3000 ..... I should have it by Wendsday ..... I saw the Block when it was striped .. I was suprised by how clean it was for about 170,000 miles. The Valves were even not bad at all so we tested and laped them ..Only 2 intake were shot from the Timing pully sliping.. I must say it was worth it...Even better to have a good Garage Guy who knows his stuff...LOL
