Fair enough. This spring I have to decide if I'm going to seriously modify my pathy or unload it as a loss (front frame damage due to my stupidity). If I do what I'd like to, the street shoes would be 31x10.5 BFG AT... A different set of rims would have something larger and more aggressive mounted. Plain dumb to run either set for other than what they are intended...

So when you do encounter mud, you're most likely instantly stuck. "Oops, I wish I had some real tires now..." Bwahahahaha.

Seriously, a good tire is one of the best investments you can make. There's a reason nobody with a rock crawler rig runs BFG A/T's. Find something with a nice open tread design, at least. Or buy a set of mudders and hang onto them for when you do go wheeling!

When I encounter a mud hole in the middle of the desert I'll let you know. I've been here for 8 years and haven't seen it yet, but I'll be on the lookout. It doesn't rain or snow all too often here, and when it does it doesnt stay wet too long, the most you'll encounter is 1-2 inches of mud with hardpacked sand/rock underneath it. I've also yet to find a rockpile/Trail, where my choice in tires was holding me back.

You are correct, there is a reason nobody with a purpose built rockcrawling rig is running A/T's it's because it's just that, a rockcrawling rig that gets very limited, if any street use. You'll also never see a "rockcrawling rig" on 32' or 33'ss. Most of the guys that are serious about it out here will name Irok's and Wrangler MTR's as their tire of choice, usually anywhere from 35" on up to 49's.

I love my pathfinder, and its very capable, and has taken me (on aired down A/T's) everywhere that I've wanted to go on any trail that isn't out of my league because of ground clearance. But, it's a IFS pathfinder, and while it's fun, until it is SAS'd there's no reason to run mudders (in the desert) and think you are unstoppable on the rocks, so I treat it like what it is, a very capable IFS vehicle that is street driven occasionally and can hold it's own on most trails, but when it gets serious, not the best vehicle to be in.

Aint nuthin wrong with running AT's... I love mine, never had issues on rocks, mud, road or snow.... no, they may not be the BEST for certain things, but they do everything I want, and they do it well.

I totally agree with you PL, I keep thinking I'd like MT's, but when my tires have done everything I've needed seems silly to waste the cash on tires, that will, for me, just kill my mileage (even more!), and with the amount of onroad driving I do, wear down in no time. (Even if they would look really cool)
