xkrewx
Lets say hypothetically that when the new 4 or so inch susp lift come out for the r50, i decide to put on 33's ...will i be able to run that big of a tire without regearing... or is that jjust totally out oif the question? nissandoms47
you can only regear the r50 to 4.636 gears. so if you already have those gears then yes its out of the question, unless you want to figure out how to swap in a r200a low pinion front diff. xkrewx
i guess my real question was, is a 1996 pathfinder capable of running 33 inch tires effectively without breaking anything?
Pezzy
AFAIK, yes, there are a couple guys who have managed to wedge 33's on their R50's...

xkrewx
so there is not danger of damage to any gears or axles or differentials or the engine? and the pathy will still be able to reach highway speeds?
OBXbeachpathy
I go 70-75 on the interstate everday with 33's, no problems
nissandoms47
define "highway speeds"
XPLORx4
Running 33" tires with 4.636 gears will make the Pathy feel much slower to accelerate, take longer to brake, and will probably require a heavier right foot to maintain typical interstate highway speeds. Since you have a '96 XE, unless you have upgraded to 4.636 gears from an SE, you're running a 4.363:1 final ratio, which originally was intended to be used with 28" tires. If your Pathy is an automatic, you will probably find that overdrive is useless to sustain a reasonable freeway pace. The net effect of all of this is that you will see a pretty substantial drop in fuel economy. Not only that, but your speedometer/odometer will read up to 18% too low, making your perceived fuel economy even lower. As with any tire size increase, the additional tire weight and diameter put extra stress on the suspension and drivetrain, so you may find yourself replacing suspension parts more often due to wear. The H233B rear end is plenty strong to push 33" meats on the road, but the front CV axles, steering rack, and tie rods may be not be able to withstand any type of "aggressive" driving you might be used to with your current configuration. In other words, you'll have to take it slower, be more careful, and be easier with the right foot. If you don't use too much wheelspin and drive carefully, 33's shouldn't overstress anything and cause it to break. Only a handful of R50 owners have installed tires 33" or larger, and it remains to be seen how well the R50 steering and suspension can take the extra stress. tmorgan4
I use excessive wheelspin with and haven't had any problems yet.
xkrewx
i define highway speeds as the legal highway speed limit, 70-75 maybe 80... and for you xplorex i have a manual 5 speed
